The story of Call Me Bae revolves around a rich Delhi girl who's abandoned by her own family, her husband, and her friends. The reason behind this is that she cheated on her husband and the girl who once lived in a palace now finds it difficult to afford the tariff of a hotel (of one day). She's seen wrapped in designer outfits and you can't miss but notice her LV bags which she's dragging from one place to another. There aren't many hardships shown as these same bags were sold to afford the rent of a flat. She moved from Delhi to Bombay and now is set on a path to make her husband or soon-to-be ex-husband regret his decision.

Call Me Bae, a new Prime Video Series starring Ananya Panday in the lead role attempts to glorify her versatility as an actress yet, it wasn't able to prove its point. Almost each episode has a special appearance and you realise by the end that it was them and the supporting cast that made the series work. With a total of eight episodes and a duration of approximately 30 minutes each, I initially had great expectations from the show. You watch the first episode and realize how the content wasn't original but influenced by titles by Gossip Girls. Bae’s life before marriage seemed just like Nate's, who is wooing a partner from a rich family to save her own from bankruptcy. Even the second last episode has that Prada Marfa white poster that Lily had in her house's entrance in Gossip Girls. Even the debutante ball reminded me of Serena. For me, it became difficult to believe that the story would have any original content at all.

When you further watch the series, even Orry has a special appearance. There was an elite going bankrupt and going through a divorce still there are no emotional aspects shown. It was all about a rich girl finding herself when it could've been so much more. Showing Bae's character to be charitable when she didn't have a thousand bucks in her purse went too far. The makers and writers have also included the famous entrance from Sid-Kiara’s wedding and used it in their first episode. When measured on the disappointment scale, Call Me Bae can reach far. Ananya recently is seen doing various roles and in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan she had the same vibes as Bae. One can say that she's experimenting however she's unable to do her roles justice.

The writers tried to make the plot a bit interesting by adding a mystery to it and we don't see that being given its due time and dedication until the seventh episode. In all, Call Me Bae is an accumulation of some recent events like the Me Too moment and social media's importance. It can be a one-time watch for you if you can make it past the third episode. Coming to its soundtracks, they're surprisingly good. The show is left on an open ending leaving us with the possibility of a second season. I hope that this never gets made as there are better stories to be heard and watched.

Final Score – [5/10]
