A new “Daredevil” series is currently in the works at Disney+, and if you are expecting it to be as brutal and bloody as the three seasons of the Netflix Original, you may get disappointed when it comes out.
Ever since the news of a new “Daredevil” series broke out, there has been a lot of confusion regarding it. Variety reported it as a reboot series the character played by Charlie Cox, whereas THR called it a continuation of the Netflix series. However, nobody called it Season 4.
So, we did some digging if the series will be the continuation of the Netflix show and basically the fourth season or if it will be an entirely new series. And finally, we found some positives and a few not-so-good news for the Marvel fans of this show.
“Daredevil” Series will see the return of Charlie Cox as the titular character, but it won't have the same TV-MA rating as the Netflix series. The majority of the fans loved the Netflix series because it never compromised on violence and language. The show's strength was the violence, blood, and gore it brought on screen, which made it popular, and fans called it the best Marvel adaptation along with The Punisher, which arrived after it. FYI, the Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck in the titular role, which flopped badly, has a PG-13 rating. Characters like Daredevil and Punisher work best only with a mature rating on screen, big or small.
However, the good news is that it will be the continuation of the story from Season 3, and is likely to be set a few years after it ended. Since Matt Murdock has already made his debut in No Way Home, the new show will likely begin after the blip. There is a high chance that we will get to see some of the fan-favorite characters like Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson returning for it.
Still, it won't be called the Season 4 of the show. Netflix Daredevil series is an ABC and Marvel production, and the Disney+ Series will be a Marvel Studios production. The change in production companies, rating, different producers, and a new platform are the reasons that it is a new series. In simple words, Daredevil is getting a soft reboot, in which on-screen faces will remain the same, but the story arc will take a new direction.
Matt Corman and Chris Ord are reportedly attached to write and executive produce the new series. They are known for co-creating the USA Network series “Covert Affairs.” Recently, they worked as executive producers and co-showrunners on “The Enemy Within” and “The Brave” on NBC as well as The CW series “Containment.”
Vincent D’Onofrio's Kingpin from the Netflix Daredevil series has also made its debut in MCU in Disney+ Series Hawkeye. However, it will be surprising to see if he returns as a regular character in the Disney+ Daredevil as this character has already taken a different turn with Echo.
All the three seasons of “Daredevil” is currently streaming on Disney+ and related streaming services, worldwide.
