Right from the first scene, the movie builds its suspense, making you believe that something just isn’t right with the whole setup. After a night of revelry, Rebecca, portrayed by Abbie Cornish, finds herself in custody, disoriented and confused. She has blacked out following a car accident that resulted in the death of an innocent bystander. It’s evident that Rebecca was heavily intoxicated and possibly drugged by a man she had been with at a bar. Detective Avery and Officer Moon, (played by Laz Alonso and Moon Bloodgood), share these unsettling details, while highlighting the strangely deserted police station. Rebecca’s lawyer, portrayed by Justin H. Min, struggles to provide effective counsel, often stumbling over his words and seeming unsure of how to handle the case. As the situation unravels, it becomes increasingly apparent that there’s a more sinister undercurrent. A brief prologue introduces a murder scene, suggesting that Rebecca’s predicament is entangled with a broader, more complex crime. The central questions that emerge are: Who was the individual who lost their life in the accident? And more crucially, was Rebecca truly responsible for the crash? As the investigation unfolds, it becomes imperative to determine the identity of the victim to understand the full scope of the tragedy. Additionally, uncovering the truth behind Rebecca’s involvement is essential to piece together the circumstances of the accident. Was she merely an unfortunate participant in a tragic event, or is there evidence suggesting a deeper level of culpability? As clues surface and the narrative develops, these questions will be key to unraveling the mystery surrounding Rebecca’s predicament and the broader implications of the accident.

"Detained" captivates viewers with its compelling twists and mounting suspense. The film expertly maintains a sense of intrigue, constantly suggesting that there’s something amiss beneath the surface. Its gripping narrative and unexpected turns keep the audience on edge, fostering a growing sense of unease and suspicion. As the story unfolds, it skillfully manipulates perceptions, making it clear that the apparent simplicity of the situation is a facade masking deeper, more troubling truths. The film’s ability to engage and challenge viewers by hinting at hidden layers of deceit ensures that the mystery remains both tantalizing and perplexing until the very end.

Abbie Cornish delivers a stellar performance as Rebecca, perfectly embodying the role of a woman lost in confusion and disorientation. Her portrayal captures Rebecca’s struggle to grasp the reality of her situation, effectively conveying a sense of bewilderment and helplessness. Cornish brings depth to the character, vividly expressing Rebecca’s uncertainty about both the current predicament and the events of the previous night. Her nuanced performance convincingly reflects the emotional turmoil and psychological strain of someone trying to piece together fragmented memories while grappling with the gravity of the situation. Cornish’s ability to portray Rebecca’s vulnerability and confusion enhances the film’s emotional impact, making her portrayal a standout element of the narrative.

Laz Alonso and Moon Bloodgood deliver performances as detectives that fit their roles like a glove, much like Cinderella's perfect-fitting shoes. Alonso’s portrayal of Detective Avery exudes a blend of determination and authority, while Bloodgood’s Officer Moon adds a layer of empathy and insight.
