Shadows of the Ten Ninja brings Japan’s legendary Ninja warriors into the spotlight with an ambitious historical action drama that blends political intrigue, intense combat, and personal sacrifice. Set in the turbulent years following the Battle of Sekigahara, the drama reimagines the story of Sanada Yukimura and Sanada Ten Braves, a group of warriors who unite against the growing power of Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The plot begins fourteen years after the battle of Sekigahara in 1600. This battle established Tokugawa as Japan’s dominant political and military power. Sanada Yukimura, a warrior who supported the defeated Toyotomi faction, remains confined in Kudoyama. The question is, will the defeated clan ever regain their dominance? Or will they remain defeated in history?

While just the first episode is out now, that one episode is quite propelling and intriguing to watch. If you are someone who loves watching action, then Shadows of the Ten Ninja will provide you with lots of it in the upcoming episodes.  The makers have also managed to capture the historical setting pretty well. For a moment, you will feel that you have been transported back in time. Even the costumes worn and the dialogs spoken will remind you and give you a glimpse of what that life might have looked like in the past.  Even the cast has done a great job in getting their characters alive with their roles and acting. Now, it depends on how well the makers carry this performance ahead in the upcoming episodes. I am hoping the rest of the plot has been developed well because the first episode looks very promising.

The only issue is that this genre belongs to people who actually enjoy watching it. If you aren’t a history or a period drama lover, then maybe Shadows of the Ten Ninja isn’t the right fit for you.  Watching any sort of period drama requires a lot of patience, as it can take time to grasp the plot. As a result, many might not like watching this one. Hence my suggestion: watch only if you are genuinely interested in history.

Apart from all this, the pacing of Shadows of the Ten Ninja is good. The makers have ensured that nowhere does the scene rush or unnecessarily slow down for no reason. This being a period show means that as viewers, we need time to understand the meaning of what is going on. And that is where the pacing comes into play. A lot of time is given to us to grasp the plot that is being shown to us.

Moreover, the narrative developed is a meaningful one. The storyline is all about loyalty, duty, and freedom, and what it looks like when those are snatched away wrongfully. It is true that when you watch Shadows of the Ten Ninja, you will actually see and feel what is written above. The essence of these matters has been well captured and depicted in this show. So all in all, I must say, this drama looks very promising, and it would be interesting to watch what the rest brings.
