Netflix's upcoming adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’ directed by Guillermo del Toro has officially begun filming this Monday (March 4) in Toronto, Canada. Actor Christian Convery who is part of the film's cast teased the start of the production by sharing a status video on Instagram confirming that he is on the set of the movie.

The film will take more than three months to officially wrap up the production. ‘Frankenstein’ is currently expected to finish filming on June 13, 2024. The production is taking place under the working title, Prodigal Father. Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ is currently expected to release on Netflix in 2026.

Netflix has already confirmed the cast of this new adaptation of the classic tale. Oscar Isaac is leading the film as Victor Frankenstein while Jacob Elordi will be portraying Frankenstein‘s monster. The cast also includes Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery.

Guillermo del Toro, an Oscar-winning director, adapts Mary Shelley's classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a bright but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a terrible experiment that eventually destroys both the creator and his tragic creation.

Guillermo del Toro, who is directing and has penned the script, is also producing the film along with J. Miles Dale, the Oscar winner who is currently in partnership with Netflix. J. Miles Dale has already served as executive producer and co-showrunner on Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities.

Frankenstein continues Netflix's collaboration with del Toro, which includes the Oscar-winning Best Animated Feature Film, Pinocchio, the anthology series Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, and the animated films Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans and Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.

Frankenstein has been adapted for the screen many times, however, the 1931 film of the titular name has been considered as one of the most faithful adaptations. The film is set in a village in the Bavarian Alps, where Henry Frankenstein and his assistant Fritz, a hunchback, piece together a human body. Some of the parts are from newly buried remains, while others are from recently executed offenders. Henry, who has created a laboratory inside a watchtower, wants to make a person and give this body life using electrical gadgets. He still requires a brain for his invention. At a nearby school, Henry's old teacher, Dr. Waldman, compares the brains of an average human being and a criminal. Henry orders Fritz to steal the healthy brain from Waldman's class. Fritz accidentally ruins it, resulting in Henry's damaged brain.
