Netflix has revealed the main trailer (watch above), teaser art (in the tweet below), and release date for the Japanese-language Netflix series, “The Journalist.” The Netflix series The Journalist will release only on Netflix on January 13, 2022, worldwide.

The Journalist is an adaptation of the hit film of the same name, The Journalist, which was released theatrically in 2019 and was a tremendous hit with viewers, attracting a lot of attention by addressing contemporary Japanese political crimes and scandals. The film earned awards in three major categories at the 43rd Japan Academy Awards, including Best Picture of the Year, as well as numerous other cinema awards, for its shocking confronting of societal taboos, thrilling developments, and stylish visuals.

In "The Journalist," Ryoko Yonekura (Doctor X, Legal V) plays the protagonist Anna Matsuda, a Toto Newspaper reporter known as the ‘maverick of news media’, who strives to expose issues in modern Japanese society. Michihito Fujii(The Journalist(film), Day and Night ) has directed this new series.

The additional cast members include Go Ayano, Ryusei Yokohama, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Shinobu Terajima, and others.

While most journalists are eager to make nice with government officials for fear of losing unique access to higher-up news sources, but Anna Matsuda was not one of them. She took her journalistic responsibilities seriously and never shied away from a story. When it becomes evident that the government is participating in some sort of big cover-up, Matsuda begins picking up the pieces to uncover the truth. As the case unfolds, we witness how far, broad, and deep authorities will go to create their own version of the truth, utilizing the media to their advantage. Matsuda's relentless determination inspires a small group of people with insider information to speak up in an attempt to break the vicious circle of misinformation and corruption.

The series is jointly planned and produced by Star Sands and Netflix.
