‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’ (2025) Movie Review - Kapil Sharma's Comedy Calls for Unity

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is a socially and morally conscious piece of fluff.

Given the country's current state, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 couldn't afford to be trivial. This is why the film isn't merely about a man who marries four women; it's about a man who marries four women from different faiths—Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian. KKPK 2, in other words, is a socially and morally conscious piece of fluff. Its intention is to expose the hollowness of those who create boundaries in the name of religion. A Muslim can visit a temple, a Hindu can pray at a masjid, and a Christian can worship Lord Ganesha. The gods don't wreak havoc on these individuals; the violence is inflicted by people who choose guns and bulldozers. Mohan (Sharma), a Hindu, converts to Islam for Saniya (Hira Warina). When things inevitably go awry—as they do in farce—Mohan converts again, first to Christianity and then to Sikhism. The fact that he remains the same person despite these religious shifts underscores the film's central idea: religious identity is not a measure of character. Mohan's love for Saniya is so unwavering that he never gets distracted, not even by the other three women he has married. One of them even tries to seduce him, but Mohan doesn't cave under, um, pressure.

KKPK 2 contains all the necessary ingredients to become the subject of animated discussion on woke Twitter. The film preaches secularism; a shopkeeper expresses his wish that Hindus and Muslims would celebrate each other's festivals; and Mohan delivers a speech praising India's cultural diversity at a school function. What KKPK 2 is missing, however, is Shah Rukh Khan. With his presence, the film might have seeped into the nation's bloodstream, and that speech could have been showered with glowing praise across social media platforms. One can easily imagine the reviews and think pieces that would have followed, hailing the film as "politically subversive" or "politically charged," or whatever. If a sorry excuse for a movie like Jawan can be placed on a pedestal, then KKPK 2 would have been Oscar material for the same audience. At the very least, Khan's character in Swades was also named Mohan. That's something, I suppose.

But in calling for unity among different religious communities, Anukalp Goswami's comedy-drama forgets to take care of its women. The wives are essentially unidimensional—servile, dumb, or reduced to sex objects. It's almost painful to watch how easily they are fooled by Mohan. There are two or three decent jokes: a trans character blackmails Mohan with a Dhadkan song, and a police officer grows dizzy while interrogating a suspect about Mohan, Mehmood, and Michael. Yet Goswami stretches the film's basic premise so thin that, after a point, the experience becomes repetitive and tedious.

The film's TV-like aesthetic results in flat, uninspired images, while the songs disrupt the narrative flow and induce restlessness (they are also entirely forgettable). All in all, while Mohan searches for Saniya, the audience searches for a better film and a better filmmaker. God doesn't punish you for embracing different religions, but it is punishing to sit through a comedy that gives you very little to laugh about.
