Marvel Studios ‘What If...?’ Season 2 Trailer Confirms Release Date and Schedule on Disney+

In a surprise move, Marvel Studios has confirmed the premiere date for ‘What If...?’ Season 2 along with revealing a trailer. ‘What If...?’ Season 2 will be released on December 22, 2023, with the first episode on Disney+, worldwide, thereafter, one episode will be released every day till the 9th, and the final episode on December 30, 2023.

The trailer (watch above) confirms that the second season episodes will be mostly Christmas-themed. It confirms the return of many characters from the first season including, Iron Man, Thanos, Black Panther, Captain Carter, Doctor Strange, and many more.

Season 2 of What If...? continues the adventure as The Watcher, who takes viewers around the wide cosmos, presenting both new and old characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With an outstanding voice cast that includes a slew of performers reprising their legendary roles, the series explores, revisits, and distorts great Marvel Cinematic events. This season's episodes feature fan favorites such as Nebula, Hela, and Happy Hogan, and are directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews, with executive producer AC Bradley serving as head writer.

Last month, the episode titles for the second season were leaked online. Below are the names of all the episodes for ‘What If...?’ Season 2 that have been leaked:

• Episode 201: What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?
• Episode 202: What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes?
• Episode 203: What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World? 
• Episode 204: What If... Hela found the Ten Rings? 
• Episode 205: What If... Iron Man Crashed into the Grandmaster?
• Episode 206: What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?
• Episode 207: What If... Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?
• Episode 208: What If... The Avengers Assembled in 1602?
• Episode 209: What If... Strange Supreme Intervened?

As per the leak, the second season will also expand the story of Ten Rings regarding which we haven't heard anything since the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. The fourth episode title is intriguing as apart from confirming the return of Ten Rings, it also confirms the return of Hela, Thor's sister who was previously seen as the main villain of Thor: Ragnarok.

The leak also suggests that the second season will bring back Captain Carter in action, she was one of the leading characters in Season 1 as well. Apart from that, the second episode title suggests that Peter Quill will be a villain in an alternate universe, which could be exciting as he will attack the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Does it mean Peter Quill will be a Thanos-level threat? The ninth episode "What If... The Avengers Assembled in 1602?" is the only episode that seems very unique from the others, and we will see how it goes.

Directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer, “What If…?” flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unanticipated ways. Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The Watcher was the only character present in all the episodes of the first season.
