On March 8, 2014, Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared from the radar with 239 people on board. How was it even possible? Different theories are proposed, and still, things don’t add up. People were left in complete shock, and they even thought that it was a deliberate attempt that involved a lot of lies.

The airplane flew from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 12:41 AM and had to land in Beijing at 6:30 AM. This was a normal route with multiple flights operating at the same distance. The night was clear, and the airplane headed over to the South China Sea. After 1 AM things started to become strange with MH370 missing from the system and there was no response from the flight. The authorities hoped that it landed somewhere in Vietnam, Hong Kong, or Beijing. By 6:30 AM they knew that something was seriously wrong still they had no clue regarding where the plane went.

An aircraft was reported to be set on fire, some reported oil slippage in the sea. Many rumors were spread and the authorities had no choice but to believe in everything so that they can eventually find the truth about what happened to the plane and the 239 people. The torment of not knowing was the most horrible part for the families.

With the help of Inmarsat, the satellite company, the authorities were able to find the approximate location of the last contact of the flight which was the Southern Indian Ocean. The satellite agency had never tracked airplanes using their technology and this was their first time doing so hence, many called their data to be unreliable.

The shooting down of MH17 by the Russians was then linked to MH370’s disappearance which led to a series of theories of Russian involvement. With no proof of the plane’s crashing, it was hard to give any statement. 16 months later, the wing was found on the beach of Reunion Island, and later many other parts of MH370 were discovered.

Many things related to this incident are secret and somehow explain that a lot has not been yet revealed to the public. How can the family even mourn without the bodies of their loved ones? The waiting room footage is also shown in this 3 part series, and it was a living hell as they didn’t know where their family is. Based on math and some data, their family members had been declared dead, and they didn’t know how to respond to this situation.

The emotional aspect, the scientific aspect, and the role of the governments of various countries are the three things that need to be understood clearly by anyone who wants to completely understand the situation. The search operation had been carried out for many years without any results as the Southern Indian Ocean was no easy place to look in. They weren’t looking for the needle in the hay as they didn’t even know where the hay is.

A plane flies, a plane lands, and a plane crashes but the one thing that it doesn’t do is disappear. The no-man zone where the plane had to switch signals at the Vietnam border, that’s the place where the main event happened that further led to altering the lives of hundreds of passengers and their relatives. To date what is not believable is that no single person knows what exactly happened, and the authorities including the Malaysian authorities have been hiding a lot from the public. There arises suspicion of the involvement of the US government and the Russian government also.

Three major theories had been proposed that explained the incident. The first theory is about captain Zaharie’s attempt to commit mass suicide, the second one is about the hijack by the Russians, and the third one is about the intercept. It is not clear to date the real reason behind the disappearance of such a huge airplane and this is what troubles most scientists in the world as there should be a possible explanation for everything.

In my opinion, MH370: The Plane That Disappeared discusses the details of the incident, the impact it had on the relatives of the passengers, and the various theories that are proposed to date regarding the mysterious disappearance of the Boeing 777. It gives you an overall knowledge about what happened at that time across the globe by taking you to various places like New York, France, and Australia and by showing us interviews of all the major people that were involved in the case.

The series is a must-watch for people who want to know what may have happened at that time. The details have been presented in such a manner that the audience will develop an interest in the story immediately and would relate to the relatives of the passengers. Seeing how the creators even brought experts like the Aviation Investigation Expert, a major journalist on board, and a man who was able to find the pieces of MH 370, the efforts are visible.

Final Score – [8/10]
