So, finally, the much-awaited season 5 of “Emily in Paris” has dropped. And it is nothing new. Quickly advancing towards the plot, here is what happened: Emily has moved to Rome and has found love again (not surprised at all). And even though Sylvie planned to hand over the Rome office to Emily and move back to Paris, this didn’t happen. The entire team stays back in Rome for love and business. Searching for Emily and finding a way to win her back, Gabrielle also lands in Rome. However, when he watches Emily with someone else, he decides to let her be. But his trip to Rome wasn’t a waste. He got inspired by the Roman cuisine and decided to add the same to his restaurant in Paris. Meanwhile, Mindy is roped in by a Chinese reality show called “Popstar” to be their judge, which she turns down. Also, now that Alfie has broken up, Mindy and he casually hang out. Now, it is obvious, and I know most of you already saw in the trailer, they do get close. Coming back to Emily, her main task remains getting something out of Antonia’s family business, Muratori, while her romance with her son, Marcello, is also budding. So these are the main pointers set up for us to look at in season five.
Talking about character development, well, there are no big changes that have happened as such. Emily continues to be how she has been since the first season. Yes, now she has started opening her mouth in front of Sylvie. Her boy issues are still the same- Gabrielle, along with some other handsome dude, is wooing her. Sometimes, I don’t know why the makers have kept Gabrielle, a fine young man, as just a side character, and why he is always competing against some other man for Emily. Talking of other characters, everyone remains the same; there are no big changes in anyone that we get to see.
In terms of fashion, the looks served by everyone are amazing and classy as always. So, girls and boys, if you want to take some clues, this show is your best watch. While Paris continues to remain a big part of the story, much of the show now revolves around Rome as literally everyone moves to Rome except Mindy and Alfie.
Other than that, what I like about the makers is that even though they keep most things the same in every season, they manage to drop us some bombs, which are enough to keep us hooked and look forward to the upcoming seasons. However, this time around, I really hope that the men switching stops. It is high time that Emily makes up her mind for either Gabrielle or Marcello. Here is hoping that happens too.
What I loved was the pacing. The show is upbeat and moves at an even pace. Not once do you feel like skipping any scene at all. As I said, the makers give us enough to keep us hooked, and with a fine pacing like that, anyone who gets annoyed by Emily’s choices also agrees to watch the show and see where she is headed now. Even the length of the episodes is well manageable and not extremely long to make us bored with the plot.
So all in all, this is a good watch for your weekend. What perfect timing to launch season 5. It's you, your device, and Emily’s plot in Rome and Paris for a good weekend.
Final Score- [7/10]
