Although the makers of Istri Satu-Satunya have tried their best to make this a good plot, the first episode itself fails to create that kind of impression. At the heart of all this is Soraya, a young woman whose life is up for a change when she discovers that Pierre, a wealthy businessman whom she believed to be dead, reappears out of the blue. More shocking is the fact that Pierre claims to be her mother’s husband. Desperate to uncover the truth about her family’s complicated past, Soraya decides to take matters into her own hands. Using a fake identity, she manages to enter Pierre’s luxurious household as a maid, hoping that this will help her answer the questions she had been looking for.
But all of this changes suddenly when Pierre dies under mysterious and suspicious circumstances. Now Soraya is suddenly surrounded by wealthy family members, hidden agendas, and secrets that are very dangerous. What is even worse is that Soraya’s presence inside the estate makes her an easy target to pin the blame for Pierre’s death.
From the look of it, Istri Satu-Satunya is filled with mystery and intrigue. However, it is these very mysteries and intrigues that make the plot confusing. The first episode, for starters, fails to capture your attention in one go. So much happens in the first few scenes that it is hard to understand what's actually going on. It will take you a while to wrap your head around the fact that what is being shown to you is actually a part of the plot. I feel the overall execution of Istri Satu-Satunya is highly haphazard. Things become so boring at one point, even though there are many twists and turns as discussed before.
Apart from all this, the pacing is also very slow. It is so sluggish that all the interest will be gone. So much time is taken up by each scene, which is highly unnecessary. A little less time could have been allotted to some of the scenes. I hope the upcoming episodes will be a little faster-paced. And if it isn’t, then god help Istri Satu-Satunya because I am not sure how many people would still be interested in watching the show.
In addition to this, even the plot feels a bit predictable. It isn’t something that we haven’t seen before. Yes, no doubt there are plot twists, but none manage to capture your attention because more or less you know what is going to happen. Again, I am hoping that the rest of the episodes will bring some change and relief, and I will be proved wrong. But until that happens, I am not sure how many of us would want to watch Istri Satu-Satunya eagerly. Plus, there is too much melodrama. Melodrama up to a point is fine. But too much feels like an overdose, and it can make us feel annoyed. This show is filled with drama that goes over and beyond. I feel this has also happened due to the cast going overboard with their acting. So all in all, if you really are a fan of the cast, then only watch Istri Satu-Satunya. Otherwise, feel free to skip.
Final Score- [4/10]
