"Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" - you might remember this famous line if you have seen the first season of the sci-fi series Heroes, which to date remains one of the most talked about shows. The series had the potential to become a cult classic show such as Lost, but it lost its way in the upcoming seasons mainly due to the ongoing writers' strike in those days.
Now a new reboot, ‘Heroes: Eclipsed’ is in the works from the creator Tim Kring. The series will be reportedly set years after the events of the original series, as newly evolved humans are discovering their powers. Kring is executive producing the new series with his manager, Jordan Cerf.
The new reboot can be also termed as a sequel to the original series. However, this is not the first time that Heroes has been rebooted in this fashion. In 2015, “Heroes Reborn” premiered on NBC, which has a few familiar faces from the original series. The series was termed a 13-episode event and followed humans with extraordinary abilities who are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives following a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas that left the city decimated. “Heroes Reborn” received mixed reactions from the critics and the audience and at the time of its release Kring teased that the Heroes universe is vast and there are endless opportunities and characters to create new stories.
Noah Bennet played by Jack Coleman and Hiro Nakamura played by Masi Oka were the familiar faces from the original series, who made a return in “Heroes Reborn.” Although the new reboot also seems to be a soft reboot, it is yet to be confirmed whether any characters from the original series or the previous reboot will be returning. Hiro Nakamura was one of the most interesting characters of the original series, who has the superpower ability to bend space and time. In the series, after discovering that he was dying, Hiro attempted to use his power to fix all the wrongs in his life by using his ability. Hiro is also a former computer programmer for Yamagato Industries & succeeded his late father as CEO of the company but lets his sister do the job for him as she has always wanted.
The original “Heroes” series ran for four seasons on NBC from 2006 to 2010. The first season that saw common people discover that they have superpowers was a big hit and raised the fan's expectations for the upcoming seasons. However, starting with the second season, the show began sliding down the hill and was ultimately canceled after four seasons.
The leading cast of the series included Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli, Hayden Panettiere as Claire Bennet, Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, Adrian Pasdar as Nathan Petrelli, Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman, Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Mohinder Suresh, Santiago Cabrera as Isaac Mendez, and Ali Larter as Niki Sanders among others.
The casting for ‘Heroes: Eclipsed’ is yet to be announced, but we are hearing that the show might begin filming as soon as August 2024 in Ontario, Canada. However, nothing is official and announced yet.
