AMC’s sci-fi utopian series “Moonhaven” has officially begun filming in Ireland, this Monday (September 6). Created, written, and executive produced by Peter Ocko, the one-hour & six-episode sci-fi series will premiere in 2022 on AMC and AMC Plus.

“Moonhaven” is expected to complete the filming by the end of February 2022. The series is about a utopian moon colony that may hold the solution to sustaining life on Earth, which has become increasingly hazardous.

The sci-fi thriller series stars Emma McDonald in the leading role of Bella Sway, a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler. “Moonhaven” also stars Joe Manganiello as Tomm Schultz, Ayelet Zurer as Maite Voss, Éva Magyar as Ennis, Dominic Monaghan as Paul Serno, Amara Karan as Indira Mare, and Kadeem Hardison as Arlo.

The series is set on Moonhaven, a utopian community built on a 500-square-mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon. It follows Bella Sway, a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler in 100 years in the future, who finds herself accused of a crime and stranded on Moonhaven to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth. Bella, a skeptic in Paradise, is pulled into a plot to seize control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven's miracles and teams up with a local detective to fight the forces that want to destroy Earth's only hope before they themselves are destroyed.

Peter Ocko is serving as the showrunner of the six-episode series. Deb Spera will serve as a non-writing executive producer. AMC Studios is producing the series. Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy are directing the first two episodes of the series.

Below is the character description of Moonhaven's cast:

Emma McDonald plays Bella Sway, a rogue Han Solo-like character who is also a Tremendous War veteran. When she is lured into a conspiracy surrounding Moonhaven's utopia, she discovers that she has deeper links to the place than she previously thought.

Joe Manganiello plays Tomm Schultz. Tomm, an ex-military with a philosophical bent, is the right hand of the main Earth diplomat to the moon, but his objectives change after being injected with a mind-altering moon drug.

Amara Karan will play Indira Mare, “Envoy of IO,” the vast and ever-present AI that keeps Moonhaven alive. Indira, who has been described as “brilliant, caring, and driven,” has dedicated her life to ensuring that the technology and culture of the moon are brought back to preserve the Earth.

Dominic Monaghan will play Paul Sarno, a detective who works with Bella to uncover a plot to take control of Moonhaven's AI and save humanity's only hope for survival.

Arlo, the colleague of Monaghan's detective Paul Serno, will be played by Kadeem Hardison. Arlo is a third-generation "Mooner" and investigator with a curious heart and a healing spirit who finds himself an unusual soldier in the war to save Moonhaven.

Ayelet Zurer will play Maite Voss, Moonhaven's political leader. Maite, chosen and adored by its people, represents the lunar expedition to save humanity from self-destruction. Haunted by her troubled history, she is lured into madness that compromises Earth's destiny.
