So if you have watched “Nobody Wants This”, Long Story Short is somewhat similar in terms of themes. And I must tell you, it is one of the most entertaining shows you must have seen in the entire week. So the plot revolves around a Jewish man named Avi Schwooper and his actress girlfriend, Jen. Avi has two younger siblings, and the family is preparing for Avi’s younger brother Yoshi’s mitzvah. Avi gets Jen to meet his chaotic family, with his mom constantly calling Jen as “Jennifer”.  From the scenes of it, it may feel that Avi’s mother is not happy with Jen, but she does like her a bit when she gives her a chance to light up the last and the thirteenth candles for Yoshi’s mitzvah. Now the show is also progressive as we see Avi’s sister Shira (also the middle child of the house) wishes to have a baby. But since she is lesbian and is married to Kendra Hooper, it is difficult for them to obtain sperm. So what does she do? She asks her husband to donate the sperm for their baby, who is for very obvious reasons. Avi is also very one thing- he doesn’t want to dump the Jew “trauma” on his wife and daughter, which is why he lets them have a non-Jewish life. Another sensitive topic that the show deals with is Yoshi’s bipolar disorder. Yoshi has mood swings and is very indecisive as to what he wishes to do in life. He gets a job because of his mother’s connection, but gets distracted by a mattress seller. He instantly decides to get into the business. While the company does great at first, soon after making many sales, he comes to know that the mattresses are defective. This business, too, comes to an end.

What I loved the most about the show was its animation. It is cool and humorous, with the character looking very cute. Even the voice artists who have lent their voices, like Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, etc, add nuance to the character. The themes portrayed in the show are very mature, but that’s the beauty of it. They are shown to us in the most fun and comic manner at the same time, and they also reflect the gravity of the scenes.  When it comes to pacing, it is fast-paced, which keeps up the momentum with the storyline, making the show more interesting.  Over a span of 10 episodes, we explore the family bond not only between the Schwooper family but also between Avi, Jen, and their daughter, alongside Shira, her wife, and their kids. They also show us what our parents and every parent go through- right from having babies, to feeding them, to picking schools for them. So on that part too, it is indeed emotional.

Apart from the above-mentioned, what makes this show stand out is the comic timing. The dialogs and the scenes are hilarious, which makes it a great watch. Plus, after watching so many serious movies and documentaries, I desperately needed something that tickles my funny bone. I believe you would want that too. So even though this animation doesn’t confuse it for a kids' show. It is deep and mature with lots of funny moments.

Final Score- [8.5/10]
