The sixth episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is titled “Zero Friends Again.” This chapter begins with the kids making a daring escape from Nawood through a series of trap doors. They tumble through icy conduits, finally landing on a snow-covered ground. While everyone is unharmed, KB, their droid companion, finds herself unable to speak. Fern quickly resets KB’s occipital link, restoring functionality. However, something about KB’s behavior feels off as she cryptically suggests the group must reconsider their plans.

Meanwhile, Dash breaks away from the group and returns to the ship, only to encounter two unexpected characters. Gunter (played by Jaleel White) and Pokkit (portrayed by Kelly MacDonald), a resourceful bounty hunter with a mysterious past involving Dash, complicate matters further. When Jod attempts to summon SM-33 (Nick Frost), Gunter swiftly disables him with a blaster, leaving Dash’s escape plan in jeopardy.

Adding to the tension, the episode introduces the “trash crabs,” or “scrap crabs,” non-sentient crustaceans indigenous to the planet Trionak. These creatures use their magnetic shells to attract metal scraps for defense. Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) stumbles upon them and becomes convinced they can aid the group in returning to their ship. However, a split decision divides the crew. Fern insists on climbing a treacherous mountain to find another path, with Neel joining her, while KB aligns with Wim to explore the crab’s potential.

The stakes heighten as Brutus, a notorious pirate with a long-standing vendetta against Nawood, captures Jod and SM-33. Aboard his pirate spaceship, Brutus holds a trial and dramatically sentences Nawood to death by the airlock. In a tense turn of events, Jod (Jude Law) employs his trademark charm to negotiate with the pirates. He promises them access to At Attin, the last operational mint of the Old Republic, securing a temporary reprieve and adding another layer of intrigue to his character.

One of the highlights of this episode is Jude Law’s performance as Jod. He seamlessly balances charisma and cunning, adding depth to the character that makes him both relatable and enigmatic. His ability to negotiate with Brutus and the pirates under immense pressure showcases not only his character’s resourcefulness but also Law’s exceptional acting skills. By introducing a morally gray aspect to Jod, the episode broadens the narrative, hinting at deeper motivations and hidden layers that could play a significant role in the story’s progression.

The episode masterfully balances high-stakes action, character development, and new lore within the Star Wars universe. However, it also leaves the audience with questions. What is Pokkit’s true connection to Dash? Can Jod deliver on his promise to the pirates, or will his gamble backfire? And perhaps most intriguingly, has KB’s personality truly shifted, or is there something more sinister at play?

As the credits roll, viewers are left wondering: Can the fractured team reunite in time to face the mounting threats, or will their divisions prove fatal? The answers lie in the next episode of Skeleton Crew.

Final Score – [6/10]
