Directed by José Campanella, Strangers in the Park is a tale of two men of different personalities who meet at a park and instantly form a deep bond of friendship. León is outspoken, politically well aware, and tells big, elaborate stories of his past. On the other hand, Antonio is more like an introvert who is heavily worried about losing his job as a building superintendent. He is cautious and reserved, the sharp opposite of what León is. These elderly people meet at Parque Lezama. Initially, Antonio is not very fond of Leon and finds him over chatty and fed up with the overstatement of his anecdotes. But slowly and steadily, these two start liking each other’s company. What we get to see is loads of humor and emotional bonding, which is long-lasting.

As you can already see, the plot is simple and sweet. We often find movies that talk about the friendships people form in school, the workplace, and adulthood. But we rarely see stories that are based on people in their old age. And that is the beauty of this movie. It shows us that forming bonds needs no age.

What I also liked the most was the fact that they chose to make two people friends who were of different, contrasting personalities. That is a lovely thing that forms the core of the movie. We are shown how initially they are not fond of each other and how slowly and steadily they end up creating a bond in some of the most unexpected ways.

Other than that, the humor used in the movie is pretty good, and so is the comic timing of the actors. It is because of this factor as well that the movie is worth watching. The comedy used is again sweet and simple, and enough to make you laugh. Nothing crass as such.

Coming to the acting, the actors are the pillars of the movie, as their portrayal of the characters is phenomenal. Luis Brandoni as the outspoken León is amazing. Whatever is expected out of his characters, he delivers. Complementing him well is Eduardo Blanco as the quiet and worried Antonio. These two get so much into the skin of the character that it is hard to believe that they are here acting for us, and this isn’t their real-life personality.

It had been a long time since I last saw a sweet movie about friendship like this. I am glad we had it because Strangers in the Park serves as a refreshing genre from all the romance and war-related movies we have seen so far.

So dear viewers, if you are up for watching a cute movie, Strangers in the Park is the best choice for your weekend. It is light-hearted and just the perfect combination of what you might want to see for a quick and quiet weekend. It is the kind of movie that leaves a profound mark on your mind even after the credits roll.

Final Score- [8/10]
