Amazon has revealed the first trailer (watch above) and confirmed the premiere date for the second season of the sci-fi series, ‘The Rig’. The six-episode, ‘The Rig’ Season 2 will be released on January 2, 2025, on Prime Video, worldwide.
The second season of The Rig follows the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo to a new secret offshore facility known as the Stac, located deep in the Arctic Circle's amazing and terrible environments. The imprisoned crew must deal with the mental and physical aftermath of the horrific tsunami that devastated the Bravo, as well as swirling intrigues, business tensions, and new threats from the world's ocean. The second season will continue to explore global themes, tying together the planet's past, present, and future while transporting viewers to stunning landscapes and delving into the boundaries of cutting-edge ocean technology, including the contentious realm of deep-sea mining.
The Rig Season 2 will include returning cast members Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), Rochenda Sandall (Criminal: UK), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), Nikhil Parmar (Foundation) and Stuart McQuarrie (Des), alongside new faces Ross Anderson (The Last Kingdom), Phil McKee (Deadwater Fell), Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen's Gambit), Johannes Roaldsen Fürst (Hvite gutter) and Alice Krige (Star Trek).
The series is produced by Wild Mercury Productions, written by David Macpherson, and directed by John Strickland, and Alex Holmes (The Letter for the King). The executive producers are Derek Wax, David Macpherson, and John Strickland. The series producer is Suzanne Reid, and the co-producer is Matt Brown.
In the final episode of the first season, the events that lead to the explosion on the Kinloch Charlie rig are disclosed, along with Coake's role in them, his actual purpose on board, and Pictor's objectives. The team rushes to find a solution as Rose and Fulmer uncover the terrifying implications of what the coded letters they have unearthed truly signify. Magnus, Rose, and Fulmer proceed to assist Baz prevent the Ancestor from unleashing another Storegga Slide. Coake attempts to complete his objective to destroy the creature by repeating what he did on Kinloch Charlie, but the team successfully stops him. Rescue helicopters arrive to remove the crew of the Kinloch Bravo, but Baz remains behind. A tsunami develops and the rescued crew watches as it smashes the rig and proceeds towards the beach, possibly wiping away the shoreline.
