This has to be a very moving plot that has been witnessed in a very long time. At the core are the lives of six people over a span of a single day, based in Mexico City. And while you might think What can you get by looking at the lives of 6 women, be ready to experience a big change. We get to see the life of a young woman who wishes to break free from the constraints that bind her. Then we see the life of a mother who is forced to confront the family truth. The question is, will she be able to handle the truth and continue with her regular life? The next is my favorite, where an Uber driver unexpectedly becomes a participant in someone else’s life just because he overheard a conversation. Not that the driver is willingly getting into this, the case is more of a forced issue. Following this, we move on to the lives of two strangers who cross paths, just like most of us do. They meet just when they have faced life enough. What will their story bring? And the main question is: will life bring all of these people together?
There are many Bollywood movies based on similar themes. And each time you watch, you won’t feel that it is a repetition. The thing is, movies like these are very high on emotion. The issues of human lives picked by the makers are something that any ordinary human will undergo. And relate to. In such cases, the execution of the plot is very sensitive because if not done right, people might just reject it straight away. Thankfully, Rodrigo García gives us the best he can with the plot. It is sensitive, peaceful, yet disturbing. All in all, we feel a range of emotions while we watch the women take over our screens through their stories.
One of the key getaways is the even pacing. The movie doesn’t go too fast nor too slow and gives just the right amount of time to show us what we want. It is filled with a certain level of comfort that can only be absorbed when you watch it. The makers also deal with mental health through the plot in a very beautiful manner. Mental health forms one of the core themes of the plot.
Another plus point is the acting. The ensemble cast, consisting of Cassandra Ciangherotti, Ilse Salas, Naian González Norvind, in addition to Alfredo Castro, alongside others, does the best at their respective roles. They are the reason the movie is worth watching. Sometimes it so happens that either of the two that is the plot or the actors do well. The Follies, however, succeeds in both and wins over the audience's attention. I love it when cities also become a character in a movie. The Follies has that. The beautiful Mexico City is also a 7th character that I must say, fits amazingly well in the plot. This movie is definitely worth a watch for all six connected stories. The pain and resilience shown here are so beautiful that there won't be any time when you will feel like skipping the plot.
Final Score- [8/10]
