This has to be one of the slow-burning, thrilling crime dramas to ever grace your screen in a very long time. Someone has to Know is a story about a teenager’s sudden and mysterious disappearance that shocks the community and his family. Initially, it looks like a normal case of disappearance. But soon enough, it turns out to be more than that. What now becomes is a case of investigation with not one, but two investigators. One is an officially appointed investigator, while the other is the victim’s mother, who has blatantly refused to accept the results of the official investigation and thus begins her own course. But that’s not it. We also have a priest whose direct involvement adds a sense of morality and mystery to the entire case. This has clearly ensured that the case is way more than what appears to the eye.

What I particularly loved the most about Someone has to Know was how much it sticks to realism rather than running behind giving the plot sensational twists and turns. The investigation procedure, regardless of who conducted it, comes across as something natural and gradual. Nothing in the whole process is rushed or haphazard. That presentation is thoughtful.

Another thing that stands out is how the makers presented the grief of a mother. It is so heart-touching that even you start feeling bad for her. That portrayal is important because it carries a significant character development into how the mother learns to live with her grief and carry on in search of the truth. The question is, will she find out what happened to her son? Where is he? Why is the truth blurred? Who was behind all this? These are the questions we think of when we see the mother’s character. Even the other characters add the layer of mystery needed in the plot. Each one is involved in the disappearance in some way or another, which makes you think what could be the reason, and why was this boy targeted?

In addition to all this, the pacing of the show is great. It gives us enough time to see and understand the mother’s grief while also making significant progress in showcasing the investigation that is simultaneously taking place. The makers have made a deliberate effort to give us an even pace, and when you watch Someone has to know, you understand why the makers did it and why it was so crucial.

The plot is great. As mentioned before, it is one of the best crime shows you will watch. Spread across eight episodes, the show ensures that there is never a dull moment in the entire watching experience. That is important because sometimes it happens that we lose track of the case if things are overcomplicated. Here, that isn’t the case. Just somewhere I felt the narrative became a little repetitive of what it showed us. I don’t know why that happened, but that can be the only bummer while watching the show. But this is something that can be easily ignored.

Final Score- [7/10]
