Playing for Texas against a USC team with a 34-game winning streak, Young became famous for one of the most extraordinary individual performances in the history of college football. That very night transformed Vince Young from a quarterback to a national icon. While this is a crucial part of his story, Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young isn’t solely about this. Rather than just being yet another sports documentary about a player, the plot goes on to examine the complicated journey that followed him. His NFL career did include two Pro Bowl selections, but all of it was also marked by injuries, difficult public relationships, and personal struggles. Apart from all this that we are shown, the makers also put a significant light on his relationship with former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher. Their conflict became a big part of Young’s NFL career that turned a complicated professional relationship into a sports entertainment. And what is best is that in this incident, the makers managed to get Fisher on board. So Young’s version isn’t the only one we get to see and hear. Now this is what you call a well-balanced making and execution because truly the makers didn’t make Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young to make Young a “Mr know-it-all”. The pacing is also good as the plot never rushes or slows down when it comes to showing us everything.
In all the concise time allocated, the makers did manage to ensure one thing: they covered almost everything that was associated with Young, right from his career highlights to his controversies and everything in between. Perhaps that is why, even for people who haven’t heard of him or weren’t a big fan, to know everything about his career, Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young is a watch that will ensure that when the documentary ends, you are well versed with who Vince Young truly is, both on and off the field.
