Clipped is based on the real-life events of Donald Sterling and the story has just begun. For those who don't know much about what and why things happened, it's a good show to get entertained and brush up your knowledge.
Sterling is the worst boss the Clippers could get especially when they were performing so badly. Hiring Doc was the best decision made even if it was accidental. Though the management of the Clippers was not easy to bear in the beginning, Doc still made his way into the hearts of the players and coached them to do their best. It's only after Doc arrived that the Clippers got a place in the playoffs.
The lavish white parties organized by Sterling and his missus were to show off the wealth that the couple had accumulated. There were no talks about the game and the efforts the players should put in. It is when a line said by Doc proved to stick to your heart about how you shouldn't retire with gold but with achievements. The hatred Sterling had for black people was evident right from the start even though the team was composed of black players. He even had a mixed-race mistress V, who proves to be mischievous.
Sterling in his sixties-seventies had grown apart from his wife and often had side chicks (who were often his secretaries). V was just another name until she became a nuisance. Used to lavish gifts, including a Ferrari she didn't take it easy when Mrs. Shelly Sterling sued her for theft. Jealous by the proximity V and Mr. Sterling shared, Shelly started to create a space between the two which wasn't taken well by V.
Whenever V and Donald had a conversation, she used to record them and the latter was aware of this. Never in his nightmares could he have imagined that these could be released in the public sphere leading to a huge scandal. What follows his ruthless remarks will be shared further in the show's upcoming episodes.
Talks about Black people in a derogatory way and Sterling thinks that he could easily get away with it. Many questions come into the minds of the audience about V’s intentions. She got a luxury car, a duplex, a spot in the public eye (through her shows at the leagues), and a lavish lifestyle. There were many ways she could've held onto Sterling, so why did she choose to send the audio tape that took the one about black people when she had many others in hand? Also, the feud with Shelly could've been handled easily, and V might have not feared losing whatever she got from the man.
The relationship between Sterling and V is also kept mysterious at this point. She's seen dressing up in a sexy dress which could've got Sterling on his knees but instead, she sobs and presses his feet. Did the man have a feet fetish? It's clear that they didn't have any sexual relationship, so should we believe that Donald Sterling kept pretty women by his side as trophies and to fulfill his fetishes? Whatever the story is, it's soon going to get pretty clear and I'm all in for the drama.
In my opinion, this series which is inspired by incidents will take its viewers on an entertainment ride. While I'm enjoying this FX series made about Donald Sterling, the owner of the Clippers, it divides its time focusing on two major issues that have been excellently covered in the first two episodes.
Final Score – [7.5/10]
