So this is a typical movie of power shifting from one hand to another. The plot follows the lives of high school mates Chimo and El Rubio. El Rubio is a bully who constantly bullies Chimo for a limp in his leg. And mind you, he has been bullying Chimo right from their school days. He doesn’t let Chimo do his delivery job properly and often robs him of the money that he has. One night when Chimo was out with his girlfriend, El Rubio came with two men and stole cash not only from Chimo but also from his girlfriend. They also take away Chimo’s birthday gift- his bike. This leaves Chimo highly disappointed and in desperate need of revenge. However, one day at the hospital, he notices something that leaves him shocked. El Rubio is in the hospital getting therapy as he has suffered a spinal injury. Chimo even visits him at his home, only to find him crippled and bedridden. This gives Chimo a sudden realization that he has the upper hand if he wishes to dethrone El Rubio. Chimo starts preparing himself; he takes boxing classes, just so that he can become the powerful one. The question is, will he make use of this opportunity?
In all honesty, I found nothing special or great in this movie. It’s basic and doesn’t serve the purpose at all. The plot is not new. While it may have depicted something that is very much prevalent in Spain, it is clearly something that we have all already seen. I also found the plot to be overly dramatic and very confusing. It takes a while to understand that Chimo has a lame leg and that El Rubio is paralyzed. Right at the start of the film, we see too many scenes of chase, which makes absolutely no sense. I don’t understand why such a plot is created.
The pacing is a huge issue, too. The movie goes on very slowly. There is nothing left to watch. Even if you skip a few seconds, there is nothing big that you missed as such. The movie just drags itself, and after a point, you reconsider why you even thought of watching such a movie. While this could have been made in a more thought-provoking manner, the same isn’t reflected in the final product, which makes it a boring watch. There is too much aggression towards the end, with some scenes that you might not want to watch after a certain point.
For those who like action and gangster movies, yes, definitely give it a chance, but again, make sure you have plenty of it. But for those who are not a big fan of this genre, please feel free to skip it. You will gain nothing out of it except the street fights of Spain that are taking place illicitly.
Final Score- [4/10]
