The second episode is titled "What If… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?"2 and it is one of the most anticipated episodes of the season. The episode promises to be a thrilling and emotional ride that will test the bonds between Peter Quill and his friends and family. The episode also raises some interesting questions about Peter Quill’s character development and motivation. Why did he decide to attack Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? What was his goal? How did he feel about his actions? How did they affect him and others?
The episode begins with a flashback to when Peter Quill was a young boy living on Xandar with his mother Moondragon. He was fascinated by stories about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and dreamed of meeting them someday. He also had a special bond with his father Ego, who was an intergalactic conqueror who wanted to use Peter Quill as his vessel to spread his seeds across the universe. Ego often manipulated Peter Quill into doing his bidding by appealing to his curiosity and ego.
One day, Ego decided to launch an attack on Earth with his army of drones. He told Peter Quill that he had found a way to open a portal to Earth using an ancient device called the Celestial Map. He also told him that he had planted seeds in various planets across the galaxy that would grow into giant beings called Celestials. He said that he wanted Peter Quill to help him harvest these seeds before they became too powerful for him.
Peter Quill witnessed this horror from afar; feeling guilty and horrified by what he had done. He tried to stop Ego from escaping through another portal but it was too late; Ego had already left behind one last bomb: one that contained Star-Lord’s heart inside it.
I think the episode is entertaining and fun to watch. It has a lot of action, humor, drama, and surprises. It makes me wonder what other alternate realities are possible in the MCU multiverse. It also makes me curious about what will happen next in the series. Will Peter Quill be able to defeat Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Will they be able to stop him from causing more chaos? Will they learn more about his origin and motivation? I look forward to watching the next episode of What If…? Season 2.
The episode somehow feels too rushed and chaotic. It tries to cram too many characters and events into a 30-minute episode. It does not give enough time to develop the characters, the multiverse we are in, the plot, or the themes. It jumps from one scene to another without much explanation or transition. It does not explore the consequences or implications of Peter Quill’s actions. It does not answer many questions or resolve many conflicts. It leaves many loose ends and cliffhangers which I hope will be resolved later, just as what happened in the first season of the show.
The episode also has some emotional moments that tug at the heartstrings of the viewers. We see how Peter Quill’s friends and allies try to reach out to him and stop him from his destructive path but to no avail. We see how Gamora, who was once his lover, becomes his enemy and tries to kill him.
The episode also leaves some unanswered questions and cliffhangers that tease the future of the series. What will happen to Peter Quill now that he has destroyed everything he cared about? Will he ever find peace or redemption? Will he discover the true nature of his father and his powers? Will he ever say “I am Star-Lord” again?
What If…? Season 2 Episode 2 is a bold and daring episode that takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a whole new level. It is a thrilling and emotional ride that will leave you speechless and wanting more. It is a must-watch for any Marvel fan. Wait for the next episode and ask yourself the same question again. What if…..?
