‘Untold Mr. T: I Pity The Fool’ (2026) Netflix Review - Knowing the Man Behind the Flashy Appearance

If you follow Mr. T, you would know how easily recognisable he is. The Mohawk hairstyle, gold chains, and a voice that is hard to ignore. With these abilities, he became one of the defining pop-culture personalities of the 1980s. But behind all this was a man few knew. Laurence Tureaud was a man whose journey from poverty on Chicago’s South Side to international fame wasn’t just a chance occurrence. Through Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool, this is what is covered. Directed by Scott Weintrob, the plot moves beyond Mr. T and his international career. Many viewers know him as B.A. Baracus from The A-Team and Clubber Lang from Rocky III. These established him as a household name, and he went on to amass a huge wave of fandom. But that isn’t our focus. The makers want us to see the journey that Laurence Tureaud undertook in order to become Mr T. Raised by a single mother in a large family with not many resources, Tureaud faced difficulties that many regular people don’t. His experiences as a military man, bouncer, and bodyguard eventually became stepping stones to enter Hollywood.

Coming to his world-famous appearances, if you think that is accidental, then no, you are wrong. Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool tells us that his look was indeed curated carefully, and the gold, hairstyle, and clothing weren’t a fluke. Once all of this is established, the makers proceed to show us what happens when the glitter starts to fade away. That transition has been well documented. There is a big emotional impact that actors or anyone in the media undergoes, which is mostly unseen by the audience once the fame starts to wither away. That emotional weight of being a character that is no longer the center of the news is what the makers wish for us to see.

The icing on the cake comes with the man speaking himself. Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool shows us Turead speaking about his life, straight from the horse's mouth. He is raw, unfiltered, and allows us a glimpse into his life. Who wouldn’t want that, especially when you have been a fan of his work? This is where the documentary manages to set itself apart from many others. Mr. T graces us with his words and takes us through each and every experience he has had in showbiz.

The pacing is a mix of brisk and slow. There are moments when you need a slow pace to see and understand what Mr T wishes to say, or to see his life moments. Again, when you start to feel that things are getting too slow, the pacing picks up. As a result, we get a beautiful mix that is best for the plot.

With the help of interviews and archived footage, Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool takes us to a world never seen before. If you have been a fan of Mr T, this documentary is a must-watch. Even if you don’t know him, there is plenty to learn from him. So either way, the documentary is a great watch.
