For those of you who have loved watching “Homicide”, get ready for another thriller with the new season of “Homicide: New York”. Following its predecessors, this season too follows the path of blending mystery and thrill. The season begins with the story of Joey Comunale, a one-year-old man who disappears. His parents tried finding him, calling up his friends to understand where exactly he was. The day passed by, and there was no sign of Joey to be seen at all. The detectives get into action to solve the case. His father explains how they shared a lovely relationship with both of his parents. One thing leads to another, and we see how Joey was stabbed to death in a fight that took place. We move on to the next story of a mother and a son who committed the murder of an 82-year-old socialite. As and when the episodes move ahead, we get to see many such gripping stories that keep you on your toes and make you deeply invested in finding the truth. The last episode, which covers the attack of 9/11, is the most emotional and moving one. For many, it might bring back memories of what had happened twenty-five years ago. Through them, we get to see what the first responders underwent on that harrowing day. Of all the episodes I have watched so far, this one is my favorite because of how moving it is. From the clippings of that faithful day, so many memories are refreshed.
In all honesty, this show is a must-watch. The way the makers have presented it shows the thorough research they did on these matters. With the help of the interviews of the detectives involved, the family members of the victims, and others who had some or the other role to play in this, the show is an instant eye-catcher as well as an attention-catcher.
Doesn’t matter if you are into murder documentaries; this show will hook you just by the way it has been executed. With over five episodes for an hour-long duration, you won’t know when the show ended. It is the kind of documentary that makes you want more.
What I also liked was how the entire setup was created to create a mood for the show. For example, the lighting and all make it look amazing as and when the interviews of the concerned people are shown. One also ends up thinking about the families of the ones who lost a loved one to crime. I was moved by how brave these families are to have come up and spoken the truth. Recalling the entire incident is like reliving it. And these people not only do that, but also do it with utmost grace. They try to cover up their tears and fight it all to narrate their side of the event. That sure takes guts.
Another good thing is the pacing. The pacing matches well with the show, and not once will you feel bored. So all in all, I heavily recommend that one should watch this show. Unless you are sensitive, then of course, avoid it.
Final Score- [8/10]
