No Way Out: The Roulette begins with a roulette spinning, but instead of numbers, the machine contains three parts. The first one is the names of the individuals to be targeted, the prize money, and the harm that has to be done. The victim shown in the opening scenes had a bounty of one billion won and for this, the enemy had to cut off his ear. This elaborate scene is successful in depicting the lengths to which an individual can go to become in possession of wealth.
Cut to the next scene and we see a detective in dire need of money. He invested his money and maybe the borrower ran away with it. Joonsik, a government official, goes into a frenzy as he has a lot of bills and installments to pay. His wife has slowly started to sell off their stuff like the cello their daughter plays. When you see this man asking everyone for a loan, this is when a bell rings in your mind indicating that these two things (ransom money and his urgency to get some) might be linked. The things fall into place right on time and we see Joonsik stealing money from the same person's home who cut off the victim's ears.
This gives rise to a series of events as the person responsible for awarding money in return for killings and torture comes up with more offers. With every task done, he increases the price. To make this into a publicity stunt and to make the people believe that he hasn't been lying about giving money, he organized a big show. People didn't listen to the police, so they collected the money that fell on the ground after a drone attached to a balloon burst open. This all leads the audience to think about the game the crime organizer is playing and will the police be able to stop him.
A lot of things are going on in the show that will prove to be successful in engaging the minds of the audience. The complexities in the show have been handled delicately, making the audience wish that they released all episodes at once. Who is the organizer, why is he giving money, and how come he's distributing such huge amounts in this manner? All these questions will be answered in the upcoming episodes and I'm more than eager to discover his identity.
Joonsik also took the ransom money with him, so this police officer also has consequences to face. This series being just eight episodes long, the makers have made sure not to keep the pace slow. They've come up with good plots in both episodes and hopefully, the same thing will be followed in the latter ones too. Talking about how the actors did their roles, they've aced their roles. All the Korean drama fans shouldn't miss out on this one.
Final Score – [7.5/10]
