Horror genre lovers, all assemble. Set across three different eras-1775, 2025, and 2050- Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins presents a tale of the recurring presence of ancient evil and how fear, superstition, and bad forces also pass through the passage of time. The plot begins in the year 1775, where an isolated community encounters an evil that was only mentioned in Filipino folklore. The narrative then shifts to 2025, where a new group of unsuspecting individuals start to experience paranormal events. As they try to investigate the eerie occurrences, they uncover connections to the events that took place in 1775. Finally, the plot moves to 20250, where everything has changed but the fear of evil persists. So from the past, present, and future, nothing really has changed all this while.

By drawing inspiration from folklore with a mix of mythology, the plot of Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins is sure an interesting watch.  By showing the past, the makers set the tone for a sinister origin of the curse. This ensures that the overall watch experience becomes intriguing. In the present and the future, a comparison sort is made, trying to tell us that a lot has changed while also not changing much when it comes to the lingering fear of evil.

What I also loved about the movie is the fact that the writers didn’t go overboard with the scares. They managed to set the vibe already through the eerie presence, thereby giving us a feel that something ominous is about to happen. As a result, we are always on our toes, right from the start to the very end of the movie. The makers also made sure not to stick to the same old formulas that have been previously used by many horror movies and TV shows. Instead, this mythological cum evil mix has been a breath of fresh air.

The pacing is also brisk. Thankfully, this isn’t a slow-burning plot that goes on and on. Instead, it gives pauses in between wherever needed so that we, the audience, can feel what is happening. Again, there is no unnecessary stretching of scenes. Everything is prim and proper to ensure that we don’t lose our interest in the beginning, middle, and the end. As a horror fan, what more would you want from all this?

The cast also does a great performance. It feels as if they are actually undergoing all the fear. Their acting looks so real that at one point, you will forget that all of this isn’t real and is just a plot of a film. The entire background and the score also give you Goosebumps when you watch Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins. When all of this happens, this is when you know that what you watched was a great horror plot. So dear viewers, Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins won’t disappoint you. However, it sure will haunt you even after the credits begin to roll.

Final Score - [8/10]
