With Homelander killing Firecracker in Episode 5 and The Deep killing Black Noir in Episode 6, maybe Butcher and company do not really need a supe-killing poison to wipe out the bad guys. Let these "caped cunts" murder each other out of ego and jealousy. This would, however, mean no world-ending catastrophe and no solitude for Sister Sage—her bunker would remain empty.
In the sixth episode of The Boys, though, V1 finally finds its way into Homelander's bloodstream. Now that this narcissistic supe knows Sage was fooling him, she should probably head toward that bunker and pray she never comes into his line of sight. Whether that will be possible is another question. The smartest person on the planet, after all, has come across as anything but smart since she first revealed her plans to Ashley. Is this all there is to Sage? The writers didn't do themselves any favors by creating an "intelligent superhero." They have only invited more eye rolls and more scrutiny.
Throughout Episode 6, Sage often criticizes human beings for being predictable, so by thwarting her plans at the end, the series seems to be aiming for unpredictability. But what actually occurs is fairly common: the villain gaining great power before the climactic fight. It's a routine trick used to ramp up suspense, no different from Thanos collecting all the Infinity Stones at the end of an Avengers film. I suspect this final season, too, will conclude on Marvel-esque terms, with a razzle-dazzle fight and a few death scenes to tug at the audience's heartstrings.
The show's crude humor, then, can be seen as a scent sprayed here and there to mask the stench of banality. Perhaps Sister Sage was right. Human beings are indeed predictable—and she may as well have been talking about the creators of The Boys.
Final Score- [4/10]
