‘The Mire: Millennium’ (Season 3) Netflix Series Review - Fails to Maintain The Same Charm

As the year 2000 approaches, officials in a tiny Polish town are shaken by a murder, a skeleton in Gronty forest, and a series of terrifying abductions.

Looking at the graph this series has followed, I have the opinion that this series had a downfall. After watching season 2, I had hoped for a better third season. After watching six episodes with a duration of more than fifty minutes each, I’ve concluded that renewing the show for its third run or to be more precise the third attempt to woo the audience failed.

The Mire Millennium pilot episode had an interesting opening. As the show revolves around money and prostitutes, it opened with the same. Anna Jazz in the costume of a prostitute tried to seduce the driver of a spirit smuggling operation. She was soon able to uncover the evidence until and unless the local force intervened and started attacking them.

At first, it was weird watching two Police units fighting against each other. Set in the 1990s, the show covers the themes of crime, money, and prostitution. Following a haphazard manner to cover every vision that comes into the minds of the writers, the audience is left wandering off and rethinking their choices.

In the first episode itself, you realize that they have deviated from the main plot many times making it difficult to concentrate. It was only by the end of the second episode that the dots began to join. It is at the same moment that you can guess the further progress of the show and decide whether you’ll develop a liking for it or not.

What didn’t work for me and won’t for the majority is the repetitive nudity (which had no significance) and corrupt people. Showing us one or two scenes of the same makes us understand what is the backdrop. It felt as if the writers were constantly tapping on our shoulders and ordering us to remember the backdrop they’ve set.

The focus initially was less on the murders and more on these things which was irritating. Talking about the murders, there have been multiple. There is also a Romani girl, Maria who speaks about the potential danger the geographical area might be facing.

Anna Jazz after recovering from the bullet wound goes and talks to Maria. It is brought into Anna’s knowledge about a gang involved in drugging, raping, and making pornographic content of young girls. Wanda (Piotrek’s daughter) might also fall prey to this gang. To know whether she’ll be rescued by Jass or not, you’ll have to watch the show.

In all, The Mire Millennium despite being a short series fails in impressing the audience. This proves how despite following a short format not everyone can ace it. I had high expectations from this Polish drama, but you can easily skip it and watch something else worthwhile. The characters aren’t strong enough to leave you attached to your screens. Initially, it was intelligent and thrilling, but with time, it has lost its charm and luster.

Final Score – [3.5/10]
