The Ramparts of Ice revolves around a girl named Koyuki, a reserved girl who has now understood how to survive bullies. Being heavily bullied for her entire life in her earlier years, Koyuki has now become a girl who doesn’t interact with people much except for her one best friend, Miki. However, there is one person who doesn’t fear Koyuki, and that is Minato Amamiya. Minato is the complete opposite of Koyuki. He is outgoing and friendly. Meanwhile, Koyuki is always wondering why people around her are so afraid of her. Probably, Minato Amamiya’s character might end up bringing a wave of change in her. Another character that we get to see is Minato Amamiya’s friend, Youta, a kind-hearted, polite boy. Youta is very tall, which sometimes reminds Koyuki of her interaction with a giraffe as a child. This also sometimes makes her scared of him.

Episode one mainly focuses on the character development of Koyuki, Miki, Minato Amamiya, and Youta. It tells us the personality trait each of these people has. As of now, there is no stage set up properly for a possible arc of romance between the leads. But one thing is for sure, there is a lot to Koyuki’s character that we have yet to see. That is what creates a sense of mystery in the show, as we don’t know the extent to which Koyuki’s social fear carries on. However, the other leads are here to bring a change in her, that is for sure. In the upcoming episodes, it is for sure that the characters are going to undergo serious developments, which will make the story deeper. The layers of the various characters will add that arch in the overall plot, which will make the viewer experience a big hit.

The makers have used super cute animation to tell us the story of the four characters. That was one of the biggest highlights of The Ramparts of Ice. It is so cute to watch. The way it complements the plot is what makes the series worth watching for sure. The visual appeal that follows is based on Koyuki’s state of mind. And that change in color palette is done so beautifully.

The pacing is good. The makers don’t drag anything. Instead, they show us the characters and a slight glimpse of their backstory. This is what I like-when we are not made to wait for so long in order to see the background of the characters. Also, the duration of the episodes is small. So, no way will you feel that things are never-ending. Before you know it, the episode is already over.

So, anime lovers, this drama on mental health is worth a shot. I suggest one can watch The Ramparts of Ice as a fresh change, different from the usual romance that we get to see in many anime over the past few years. The plot is going to develop slowly but deliberately, which will make you want more. This comes as a quick watch which won't leave you disappointed.

Final Score- [8/10]
