Of late, most of the anime we have seen is based on fantasy epics and sci-fi. This is where Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express comes across as a breath of fresh air. Set in a retro-futuristic galaxy where genetically enhanced humans and cyborgs exist together, the plot follows Chiharu and Makina, two careless troublemakers who get arrested after violating space traffic laws. As a punishment, they are given the task of cleaning the aging Galactic Limited Express, also known as Mikly Subway. But they aren’t alone in completing this task. Working alongside fellow offenders such as hacker cyborgs, biker gang members, and mechanics, nothing goes as planned for cleaning. When the train is unexpectedly launched into space, disaster follows.  This forces the crew into an adventure filled with strange encounters, malfunctioning AI systems and chaos that doesn’t seem to end anytime soon.

Now, from the looks of it, the plot is absurd, and that is what makes the plot’s strength. There is a new problem that comes up every minute, making you pity the crew who are as clueless as we are when we see the plot.

To some viewers, Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express might not seem appealing, and that is fine too. Sometimes, the story leans too much on the chaos of a plot set in the near future. But honestly, it all depends on your interest in watching it. If you aren’t someone who likes plots like these, then maybe this isn’t your watch. But even with that, the adventures created are still worth at least one watch. Some of them are really entertaining, which will make you wonder what will happen next.

I will, nonetheless, appreciate the new issues that come up in every scene. That makes you want to see how the mismatched crew actually solves the issues. What works heavily in favor of Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express is how well the visuals have been developed. The CGI animation is expressive, and the action scenes are also developed in a way that manages to catch the attention of the audience. The way the future world has been shown looks amazing to anyone who has an interest in anime.

However, the plot’s pacing is slow. Even if you fast-forward, there is nothing big that you would have missed, as such. That can cause a loss of interest for the viewers who expected a bit more from Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express. Another thing is that the chaos feels like rapid fire. Too much is happening for the audience to get a grasp of what exactly the issue is. Nonetheless, these are some of the issues that can be ignored easily. For anime fans, Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express is a new concept. One can watch and expect to get entertained. The concept of a future world is good, and with space added to the plot, things become even more intriguing.

Final Score- [7/10]
