Apple TV+ limited series ‘The White Darkness,’ which is led by Loki star Tom Hiddleston is gearing up to begin production as early as the start of this Spring. The series is based on David Grann’s nonfiction book of the same name.

Note 03/27/2024 - The filming schedule appears to be for another show belonging to Apple TV+. We apologize for this confusion. We will update this article once the correct schedule is available. As per the schedule, ‘The White Darkness’ will begin filming on March 13, 2024, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and will take more than four months to wrap up on July 31, 2024. The series will be Tom Hiddleston's second collaboration with Apple after The Essex Serpent which was released in 2022.

Apart from the filming schedule, we are also hearing that Kari Skogland, director of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is reportedly set to helm the series. Her credits also include The Rook, The Punisher, NOS4A2, The Handmaid's Tale, The Walking Dead, House of Cards, and many more. She is also hired to direct Cleopatra for Atlas Entertainment.

‘The White Darkness’ has been developed by Apple TV+ Series, Pachinko creator Soo Hugh and will be co-showrun by Hugh and Black Swan writer Mark Heyman. As of now, Tom Hiddleston is the only actor announced in the cast of the series. He is leading the series in the role of Henry Worsley, a dedicated husband, and father, a former soldier, a man of great respect and sacrifice, but also a guy obsessed with adventure, as seen by his epic foot expedition across Antarctica.

Based on David Grann's book, The White Darkness focuses on the journeys and adventures of British explorer and British Army officer Henry Worsley, who visited the gravesite of Ernest Shackleton, a polar explorer himself. Worsley proceeded to the remote coasts of South Georgia Island in the southern Atlantic Ocean to see the graveyard. In subsequent years, he journeyed considerably further.

The TV series is produced by Apple Studios and UCP, with Theresa Kang-Lowe serving as executive producer under Blue Marble Pictures, where she has an overall deal with the streaming service. Hugh, Heyman, and Hiddleston will also serve as executive producers, with Caroline Garity of Blue Marble Pictures, the company behind Pachinko.

Tom Hiddleston, known for playing Loki in the MCU for Marvel Studios was recently seen in Loki Season 2 at Disney+. The series has completed its run and Loki's MCU future is currently uncertain. Although Hiddleston also voices the character in Marvel's What If..? Hiddleston will be next seen in the upcoming sci-fi drama, The Life of Chuck, based on Stephen King's novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz played by Hiddleston.
