Horror movies are never my cup of tea because I am a scaredy cat, but they also never fail to get my attention because of the interesting plots they showcase. Well, it's been a long time since I have seen a proper scary horror movie, but Trinil managed to impress me with its plotline.

Trinil: Kembalikan Tubuhku is a 2023 horror movie that was initially released on December 27, 2023, but became officially available on Netflix in May 2024. Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, Trinil: Kembalikan Tubuhku involves Carmela Van Der Kruk and Rangga Nattra as the main leads of the movie.

It's a type of horror movie that is interesting and weird at the same time. Well, I found the movie kind of weird because, at one point in time, while watching the movie, I slowly started to find it kind of funny. The concept and background story were interesting, but the ghost was not scary.

The movie started by showing three men talking about an incident, and they were sharing the various kinds of stories that are popular in the village. When one of them went out to do some work in a storage room, things around him started to seem very weird and gave off very cold vibes. The surroundings suddenly became very eerie, and slowly, things started to act in a different and weird manner. Soon, the man encountered a ghost who was without a body, but the head was there, and the ghost killed the man.

That part literally freaked me out, as it was a sudden jumpscare, but the ghost wasn't scary; it was more like a comic character. Then the main story started when the focus was shifted to Rara and Sutan. These two are a new couple who are ready to start their new life. After their sweet honeymoon, Rara decides to focus on the tea plantation, whereas Sutan comes back to his normal work life as a nurse.

When Rara thought that they would now be leading a very happy and normal life, things started to go astray. Rara got cursed, and one day, Sutan found her weird behavior, which seemed similar to the behavior of someone when that person was possessed. This whole incident freaked him out, and he went to his friend, asking for help.

Yusof is a friend of Sutan, and he is known for working on mystical cases like this. When Sutan went to meet Yusof, he witnessed that Yusof was handling a similar case like this, so he asked him for his help. Now Yusof, Sutan, and Rara start to try to find out the truth and what this ghost actually is. What made them more curious about the ghost was that whenever it came, it kept on mentioning “Trinil, return my body."  This whole thing made them wonder who Trinil was and where the body of the ghost was.

The story is truly interesting, but the character portrayal of the ghost could have been more scary, but it was more funny. If you are a horror movie lover, then you won't be able to get scared much, but the storyline will keep you seated till the end.

Final Score- [6/10]
