I'm unable to comprehend how this title does justice to the story included in the Spanish series We Were Kings. It's not as if the boys were the kings of the locality and if they were then why wasn't that part included in the show? As far as I can comprehend, it's a poor locality, and the same characters who are being referred to as ‘Kings’ are having a hard time paying the mortgage and meeting daily living expenses. Javi, a young lad, is involved in shady businesses like stealing cars with his friends and uncle. He gets his cut after the car is sold and that's how he makes his living. Santos, Javi’s childhood friend, works in the Police and lives with his mother Malena. They've got a huge loan and if they're unable to pay it then their house will be auctioned. It's in the first episode where we find out about Javi and Malena’s steamy affair. Javi’s brother Mike too is in the force.

Javi wanted to do everything that he could for his woman and when it came to saving her home, he went on another car hunt. This time however he made a great mistake as he stole the car of a big gangster. The poor man wasn't given much choice and as a result, they kidnap another old lady to extract money. If you watch closely then there's a chain reaction forming here and it won't take much time before this blows up in the face of characters. The writers will also have to be cautious about how they're proceeding with things because from where I'm looking at right now, either it's going to be a fabulous show or everything's going to go in vain. I've liked the plot of the show till now and how the actors have carried their character is great.

Javi lost everything in the moment when he killed Santos accidentally. He has to live with that guilt constantly and whenever he'll come near Malena, the guilt will come crawling back to him. She's already said twice that if she finds out who killed her son (which she will) then she'll kill the killer with her bare hands. Javi will have to face his family too when they find out that he's been having an affair with a lady of her mother's age. She was her godmother and now they've been together for six months. Things are sure to get more complex when Mike gets a hint of this affair. He's always had feelings for Malena but never approached him. Think about the betrayal and jealousy he'll feel after getting to know about all these details.

In the starting three episodes, a lot of things have been tried to be incorporated and the writers have been successful in maintaining a balance between the various elements. I didn't feel bored or thought that things were repeating. Till now it's a good show and seems promising.

Final Score – [7/10]
