‘We Can Be Heroes 2’ Officially in Development at Netflix, Cast Shares the Excitement

Netflix has announced that it's developing a sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s newly released superhero action-adventure film “We Can Be Heroes,” which debuted this Christmas. The announcement was made along with Netflix’s holiday viewership numbers. As per Netflix, We Can Be Heroes” is projected to have 44 million viewership in its first 28 days.


Soon after the announcement the cast of the film shared their excitement regarding the sequel including Priyanka Chopra, YaYa Gosselin, and Rodriguez. Priyanka said, "Heroics Headquarters projection: 44 MILLION FAMILIES will have suited up for WE CAN BE HEROES in its first 4 weeks!! And….BREAKING NEWS: The Heroics are coming back for round two. Sequel is in development with @rodriguez and @Netflix."

The movie follows when alien invaders kidnap Earth's superheroes, their kids are whisked away to a government safe house. But whip-smart tween Missy Moreno (Yaya Gosselin) will stop at nothing to rescue her superhero dad, Marcus Moreno (Pedro Pascal). Missy teams up with the rest of the super kids to escape their mysterious government babysitter, Ms. Granada (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). If they're going to save their parents, they'll have to work together by using their individual powers — from elasticity to time control to predicting the future — and form an out-of-this-world team.

Also according to Netflix, the movie, which debuted on Christmas, contributed to record-breaking viewership during Christmas week. Between Dec. 25 and Dec. 31, the title recorded first place on the top 10 kids overall list in 88 out of 93 countries and reached the top 10 for all films in all countries across the globe. 


Robert Rodriguez also acts as the producer, he has previous experience with the action-adventure drama. He previously directed, wrote, and produced Spy Kids, which went on to become a major movie franchise. Rodriguez also directed The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, a superhero-kid film intended for the same audience as his Spy Kids franchise.
