This was such a predictable plot; I don’t know why the makers decided to even go ahead with making this. The plot revolves around three siblings who decide to gather together in order to come to a conclusion and make a decision regarding what they are going to do about their 86-year-old father. The thing is, their old man has started becoming very erratic in nature. What was supposed to be a normal decision on whether to send him to an old age home or take them in with themselves soon becomes a whole game of emotional chaos with buried past coming out and some really long-standing tensions erupting. Each of the siblings has a totally different reaction due to age and behavior from the others when it comes to whether to accept the decision or do something else about it.

As any family drama would have it, this one, too, is highly predictable. There have been countless movies and TV shows on this one. So, honestly, as such, nothing new is being offered to us. Even the dialogue used is so boring and feels so worn out that it can irritate most of us while watching. I was hoping maybe through the dialogs, the mix of emotional depth and small portions of humor could have come out, but that doesn’t happen either.

But what does indeed stand out in favor of 53 Sundays is the star cast and their amazing performance. For example, Javier Cámara, Carmen Machi, Javier Gutiérrez, and Alexandra Jiménez bring out the detailed authenticity of their characters. Their acting as per their character’s age is what catches the eye the most. It feels almost surreal when we watch them act. Even for a plot that is not well executed, their role is top-notch, all because of the acting performance they give away. The chemistry they share with each other makes it even harder to believe that these people aren’t a family in real life. This is exactly where you understand that acting has indeed surpassed all levels and saved a script that even you can guess about. Carmen Machi shines in the role by effortlessly blending humor and a soft side. Javier Cámara's portrayal of frustration is also top-notch. Meanwhile, Alexandra Jiménez and Javier Gutiérrez add the perfect blends that are required from their characters.

The pacing was incredibly slow, which I am not really surprised about, to be honest. The pacing adds more and more to the irritation because after one point, you will question yourself as to why you chose to watch 53 Sundays when you could have watched something else and better. Spread over an hour, the entire plot is annoying. I feel a better execution could have made wonders because the star cast does a great job in bringing life to the characters, as discussed earlier. This humor mixed with drama was supposed to be a better version than we all expected, but nonetheless. So I would suggest watching it for the acting of the cast. If not, then feel free to skip it.

Final Score- [5/10]
