So after the Sausage Party, we are back with another adult comedy. One thing that I have realized about adult comedy, be it animated or non-animated, is that you can enjoy it if you have a niche for it. If you don’t, then maybe you will not. And also one more thing is that adult comedies can be a bit gross to watch. This is what I felt after watching this movie because of a few scenes. Coming to the story, Fixed revolves around the story of Bull, voiced by Adam Devine, who is a hyperactive dog breed. He is in love with his gorgeous purebred neighbor, Honey (voiced by Kathryn Hahn). What’s even more interesting is that he is fixated on his elderly human named Nana. Bull is living a good life until one day his human informs him that he will be neutering him. This means all the plans of a happy and exciting love life will go for a toss. But Bull is no ordinary dog. He refuses to accept this type of destiny, and together with his fellow trusted doggy friends named Rocco, Fetch, and Lucky, he embarks on a fun-filled life. So clearly from the plot, you can understand that, though animated, it is not a child’s movie to be watched. These dogs are on a mission to lead a fun-filled last few years of their lives.
Throughout the film, you will get to see and hear many body-related double meanings and sometimes straightforward jokes. But after a point, the jokes become dry and feel repetitive. This goes heavily against the film, even if the plot is somewhat interesting to watch.
Of course, when we talk about an animated movie, the actual stars are the people who voice it. And in Fixed, they have done a good job. They have given the punch line right at the moment in a tone that will make us laugh. So that goes in big favor of the movie.
But in some places, I felt as if the plot was forced to become funny even though it wasn’t that funny. These dogs are made to appear funny and comedic when in reality they are just normal. Yes, it's creative to make a plot out of neutralization because that’s something none of us has ever thought of. The feeling of a dog who is in love with his neighbour’s dog and has been made to neutralize is unique. But the plot wasn’t depicted in the same manner.
Visually, the movie is good. The dogs and the other characters add to the leftover charm. But animation and a good voice aren’t the only things that can attract the audience. We need something more than that. This is what we did not get ultimately in this movie. So, unless you are a big fan of adult animated comedies, this can be worth a watch. If not, then you will find yourselves rolling your eyes over the so-called jokes that are supposed to make you laugh.
Final Score- [4/10]
