AMC’s “Interview With the Vampire” has officially begun filming today in New Orleans City. The eight-episode first season is expected to wrap up production by May 2022.

Based on Anne Rice's book series, The Vampire Chronicles, “Interview With the Vampire” will follow a vampire named Louis de Pointe du Lac. In 1791, Louis is a young indigo plantation owner living in Louisiana, who was approached by a vampire named Lestat de Lioncourt after the death of his brother. Lestat turns Louis into a vampire and the two become immortal companions. Louis didn't like to feed off humans as Lestat did, but soon he came to terms with his Vampire instinct.

After moving to New Orleans, Louis begins to feed off a young girl, but he decides to move away from Lestat because of Lestat's total absence of compassion for humans. Fearing this, Lestat turns the young girl into a vampire, who became a daughter to both. They gave the girl a name, Claudia. Claudia gradually realizes that she will never be able to grow up; her mind evolves into that of an intellectual, assertive woman, but her body remains that of a little girl.

The series stars Sam Reid in the lead role of Lestat, GOT alumni Jacob Anderson as Louis, and Bailey Bass as Claudia. AMC has plans to make this series like Game of Thrones adaptation, the studio has rights to all the books in the series and has a plan to adapt all of them.

Rolin Jones serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series under his overall deal with AMC Studios. Mark Johnson, Anne Rice, and Christopher Rice are also executive producing. Alan Taylor is directing the first two episodes including the pilot along with serving as an executive producer.

“Interview With the Vampire” is likely to release in Summer 2022 on AMC Network and AMC Plus. AMC has also greenlit Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches for an 8-episode series, which is currently scheduled to release in late 2022.

Rice's “Interview With the Vampire” was adapted into a film in 1994 with Tom Cruise as Lestat, Brad Pitt as Louis, and Kirsten Dunst as the child vampire Claudia. The film earned widespread praise and was nominated for Academy Awards in Best Art Direction and Best Original Score. Actress Kirsten Dunst was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
