Irish Wish is a great comfort film, but again, why do the writers keep going back to the same plot that we have seen probably multiple times? To make a great romantic film, writers should start thinking out of the box because this concept has been used multiple times. Nonetheless, despite this failure, I was pretty much impressed with the settings that were used for the shooting of this film. These are the ones that carry the burden of the movie instead of the actors.

Though the plot keeps you engaged, you’ll slowly realize that it is only because you want to see more locations where the film is being shot. Take for example the boat ride, don’t you get fascinated by seeing those pink railings and pink boats? The film has used such neat places and things that you are left wondering what it could have done if the plot was also unique.

Coming to the plot of Irish Wish, the name has been kept so because Paul Kennedy with whom Maddie is obsessed is from Ireland, and she wants to marry her badly. What ends up happening is that Maddie’s best friend Emma ends up marrying him instead. Paul was making money out of Maddie’s talent, and she never realized the potential she had.

After going to Ireland for their marriage, things change for Maddie and she realizes that she needs to stand up for herself if she ever wants to go from an editor to a writer.

Paul is only a writer, and judging by the things that are said in the film and Maddie helping him in writing the novel, he is pretty bad at his job. Then how come he lives such a lavish life? The huge acres of land his family owns along with such a huge castle makes it impossible to think that he is just a writer. It might be generational wealth, but the question will keep revolving in the minds of the audience.

One thing you learn after watching Irish Wish is that sometimes it is just the image of the person we have in our mind that makes us attracted to them when in reality they can be so much different. Another thing is that what is bound to happen will happen anyway.

Though Maddie wished that she wanted to be married to Paul Kennedy, in the end, she realized that he wasn’t the man she could spend her life with. Before her wish was granted by Saint Brigid, James was the one for him, and on the day she was getting married, the same realization hit her. Here we have the typical plot of a wish being granted to Maddie and after facing the consequences she wants to go back to her previous life.

Lindsay Lohan didn’t exactly slay this film, and her role somewhat takes a backseat after we see the work Ed Speleers has done as James. This film can qualify as a good film, but only due to the amazing landscapes and properties that have been used.

Final Score – [6.5/10]
