Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy to Return in ‘The Boys’ Season 4 or Beyond

The third season of The Boys was probably the best one, but the finale had mixed reactions. The Boys Season 3 finale saw death, some unexpected twists and turns, and a major cliffhanger making the fate of a few supes unknown.

In one of the final scenes, Soldier Boy has been frozen again, hinting that it might be his final outing. However, seeing the popularity of the character, it won't be practical for me to say that Soldier Boy is finished, and definitely, showrunner Eric Kripke is also not ready to give up. In a recent interview with Deadline, on the future of Soldier Boys and Maeve, Kripke says, "We definitely won’t reach the end of the series without seeing Maeve again. I’m hoping we see Soldier Boy again."

Soldier Boy is one of those characters, whose fate lies totally in the hands of the show's writers if he has to return in the upcoming season. Played by Jensen Ackles, Soldier Boy was revealed to be the father of Homelander, but in the finale, he called Homelander - a disappointment. This led to a big fight between Soldier Boy and Homelander, but ultimately it was Butcher who fought him one-on-one with other members of the Boys joining him later. In the end, Maeve took him out through the window to avoid the impact of the major energy blast by Soldier Boy.

Kripke also talked about the upcoming spinoff series Varsity and how it connects to Season 3. "There’s a presidential campaign happening in the background of the third season, and there are certain things that are happening at that school that are both in reaction to what just happened. There’s Soldier Boy, etcetera, but also some new storylines that are happening in the spinoff that we have to pick up and take into Season 4." Kripke also confirmed that there will be some crossovers between both the shows, "There’s definitely crossover, and we’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in Season 3 hand off to the first season in Varsity."

The Boys Presents: Varsity is currently filming and is already halfway through. The production is currently scheduled to wrap on September 01, and as per Kripke, we can expect it to premiere in the first half of 2023, it could be the first quarter as well. The Boys Season 4 is currently in pre-production and going through the writing process. Filming is scheduled to begin on August 22, which will be a week before the Varsity wraps.
