‘Lost in the Spotlight’ (2025) Netflix Movie Review - Could Have Been Better

Have you ever wondered what happens when an actor loses his ability to act? And, for the matter of fact, anyone who is in a certain profession and ends up losing their ability to do that job? Well, that is what “Lost in the Spotlight” deals with. The plot revolves around Vino Agustian, an actor who is celebrated for his work. This is very inexplicable in nature, with no particular reason given behind it. The movie starts with a young Vino who captures his audience in one of the school plays. This scene is important as it shows us the building passion he developed for acting during his childhood. Fast forward to the present time, Vino is a big name. Everyone knows him now, having won several awards for his work. This also results in him becoming a borderline narcissist. Post all this, the next morning, we see the most bizarre and unexpected thing happening to Vino. Now there is no doubt that Vino is amazing at his job. This made him the first choice for a biographical film on a former president. However, when he was about to act and rehearse for the script, he suddenly could not act. It is more like his skills have been lost somewhere. Initially, he thought it was just a case of stage fright. However, soon this became viral, and now the entire public has come to know that he is no longer able to act. But why has this happened? Will Vino ever regain his ability to act? Will the audience accept him back?

This movie is a classic example of how overconfidence and self-love sometimes blind us and become a main reason for our downfall. Through Vino, this is the message the makers have tried to tell us. But sadly, the plot doesn’t convey this message well. For example, this entire thing of Vino losing his abilities to act and things becoming viral is really confusing. As an audience, it is difficult to make out what exactly is happening here and why. Why did the makers show us what they did?

Also, I have issues with the ending. A plot line without a good ending annoys me a lot, and that did happen here. The ending wasn’t satisfactory at all. While Vino's character developed well in the first half when the makers showed us his childhood and all, but towards the second half, that development is lost. Now, all of a sudden, we know that Vino has become very arrogant about his work. But what is the point here? Why wasn’t Vino's proper character development shown?

And it goes without saying that the pacing of the movie was extremely slow. It was dragged on for no reason, and that too adds to the continuous annoyance again and again. So dear viewers, I would say it is better to watch something else and better. This movie doesn’t live up to the expectations, and in return, you will only waste your two hours here.
