Some movies catch your interest right from the start, and then some make you wonder why you chose to watch them in the first place. I had a similar experience with the latter while watching Planet Single. It took me a lot of time to understand what it was all about. So here’s what I understood, which is also the plot: the central couple, Tomek and Ania, get back together in this movie. Set against the backdrop of a Greek Island, a group holiday ends up becoming a comedy of errors for the people involved.

Tomek and Ania’s friend Marcel has a resort where he plans to launch a singles reality show. What becomes suspicious is his business partner, who seems to be more of a con artist than a business partner. This, in turn, makes the plot seem like a mixture of a reality show cum detective series.  And the rest of the movie just goes in and around this. We are shown how Tomek gets obsessed with uncovering the truth, while Ania, on the other hand, is undergoing hormone therapy after facing fertility issues.

While this does seem to be a great new plot, its execution is not good. The scenes are confusing, leaving you to wonder what will happen next. Comedy is there, which is good, but sadly, that’s not a saving grace either. The plot lacks depth to become great with fun. Of course, like I already said, the story is great. But the potential of making it into something amazing is lost. This goes heavily against the success. Although the writers have attempted to make the plot diverse by incorporating these themes, it does add diversity, but this also becomes somewhat chaotic to watch.

Aesthetically, the film is good to watch. Sun-soaked beaches, for once, do make you feel like visiting some island one day. Coming to what goes in favor of the film is that the core theme of romance is there between the leads. So lots of love around the film is there. But then again, this too makes the plot very predictable to watch, because how far can romance go in giving you surprises? At one point, I questioned my decision to watch the film, but I had to so that I could provide a fair warning. Most of you can make out what the ending will be.

When it comes to acting, the film is a great watch. The actors are good, and so is their comic timing. They are the saving grace for this weak plot and make it worth watching. The characters, especially Ania’s role, are well written. She gives us some quieter moments through her journey of infertility, making us understand the pain of many who are undergoing the same issue.

Overall, if you are really bored or have been watching this franchise, then you should watch it to keep track. Otherwise, this film isn’t worth the run time.

Final Score- [4/10]
