For musical fans, “Take That” offers a deeper insight into the band. Divided into three parts, the series traces the journey of one of the biggest boy bands in Britain. Created by David Soutar, we are taken through the 35-year-long journey when the band mates were in Manchester, hoping to make it big one day on a global level.

The series opens with archived footage of some of the earliest performances the band ever gave before it became a big name in the industry. This establishes the fact that the band had really humble roots while performing in schools and clubs. The present members then come up to tell us their experience and journey right from the time they rolled out. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald give some of the most blunt interviews where they talk about the initial rise of the band, the split, and how they decided to come back together. In between, we hear their famous hits such as Back for Good, Never Forget, and Shine. These songs serve as a stark reminder of how powerful a band can be when the right music resonates with the fans.

What I liked the most was that the makers didn’t really get into the personal lives of the members. For example, Mark Owen’s struggles, as well as the relationship scandals that he was involved in, are something that is being touched upon, and I am sort of glad that the makers decided to keep it that way. The soul focus remains on the band, which is what makes the series worth watching for everyone who has ever loved or vibed to it.

So all in all, we get exactly what we thought: everything about the band: their creation, their journey, their split, and finally a reunion that fans were waiting for.  But in order to understand the docuseries, you must be familiar with the band and its music. Because if that is not the case, you won’t understand anything at all. And that goes for any band as a matter of fact, hence this one is no different either.

The pacing is great, which ensures that you won’t get bored at any time. Other than that, the makers have done good research and given us archived footage of everything. This helps us to engage well with the series and relate to what matters is being spoken about.

For sure, the series acts as a good nostalgia trip for those who have been following “Take That” since its inception. You will fall in love all over again with the music, and I can guarantee that if you have forgotten about it, you will start listening to it again. Some of the most iconic performances are revisited, the members share their thoughts, and the timeline is properly followed. As a fan, what else would you want? In these three episodes, you will learn everything about the band.

Final Score- [7/10]
