The fourth and penultimate season of The Boys has officially wrapped up filming this Tuesday (April 11) in Toronto, Canada, after almost eight months of continuous filming. The series began production on August 22, 2022.

Showrunner Eric Kripke has directed the final episode of Season 4, which has taken almost two months to film since Kripke announced it on February 12. In the same tweet, he indicated that the series will also return for another season, which we later confirmed in an article that The Boys will return for the fifth and final season. Although, Amazon is yet to officially reveal this news.

Even though the filming has wrapped, the post-production will take another 8-10 months to make the show ready for release. So, we can expect The Boys Season 4 to release sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2024 on Prime Video. But the fans already have something ready for them this year as The Boys spinoff series, Gen V is likely to release in Summer 2023. Gen V has received a lot of positive feedback in the internal screenings and is on par with The Boys. The series will include cameos from the cast of The Boys and one of them is said to be Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy. Gen V Season 2 is also already in the works but is yet to be officially announced.

The Boys Season 4 will pick up a few months after the third season, with Annie January aka Starlight (Erin Moriarty) working with the Boys as she adapts to making a difference without her superhero alter-ego. Hughie (Jack Quaid) will have some family drama as his mother reappears in his life, but could this impact his relationship with Annie to progress? It seems right that Marvin Milk, aka MM or Mother’s Milk, would take the role of leader for the boys while Frenchie and Kimiko explore other relationships. The penultimate season is set to focus on the Boys instead of the superheroes.

The first episode of Season 4 titled, "Department of Dirty Tricks" is directed by Philip Sgriccia and written by David Reed. The other Season 4 directors include Catriona McKenzie, Karen Gaviola, Bola Ogun, Shana Stein, Fred Toye, and Eric Kripke. With seven directors, the fourth season of The Boys now may hold the record of using the highest number of directors in a single eight-episode season.

Earlier, Season 4 added Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the cast in an undisclosed role, Valorie Curry as Firecracker, who will be very close to Homelander, Susan Heyward as Sister Sage, Derek Wilson as Tek Knight, Rob Benedict, Rosemarie DeWitt, Alison Deon as Dr. Sarah Petrie, Elliot Knight, and Jesse Goldman. Season 4 also promoted Cameron Crovetti, who plays Homelander’s son Ryan to a series regular, confirming that he has a much bigger role to play this season.

The returning cast of Season 4 includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Colby Minifie, Karen Fukuhara, and Claudia Doumit.

The Boys is based on the comics of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers, and developed by Eric Kripke. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Phil Sgriccia, Craig Rosenberg, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Paul Grellong, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, and Michaela Starr also serve as executive producers. Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios are producing The Boys, along with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
