Universal Pictures has revealed the first trailer for Zac Efron’s ‘Firestarter’ reboot movie. Directed by Keith Thomas, ‘Firestarter’ will release in theaters and stream at Peacock on May 13, 2022.

In a new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic thriller from the producers of The Invisible Man, a girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fights to protect her family and herself from dark forces that wish to capture and control her.

For more than a decade, Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been on the run, seeking to protect their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from a nefarious federal organization bent on using her unprecedented ability to create fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her rage or pain-induced power. However, as Charlie approaches the age of 11, the fire gets increasingly difficult to control. After an incident discloses the family's whereabouts, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes) is dispatched to track them down and apprehend Charlie once and for all. But, Charlie has different plans.

The film also stars Kurtwood Smith (Amityville: The Awakening, Hitchcock), John Beasley (The Purge: Anarchy, The Sum of All Fears), and Gloria Reuben (Lincoln, Mr. Robot). The Firestarter score is composed by the legendary John Carpenter and his fellow Halloween franchise composers Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.

Directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil), from a screenplay by Scott Teems based on the novel by Stephen King, Firestarter is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and Oscar® winner Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Constantine) for Weed Road Pictures. The film’s executive producers are Ryan Turek, Martha De Laurentiis, Gregory Lessans, J.D. Lifshitz, Scott Teems, and Raphael Margules.

The 1984 sci-fi horror film Firestarter grossed $17.1 million at the box office in 1984, from a budget of $12 million. Firestarter: Rekindled, a miniseries based on the film, was also broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2002.

Firestarter is a science fiction-horror thriller written by Stephen King that was first published in September 1980. In July and August of 1980, Omni released two passages from the novel. Firestarter, Kings' 1981 novel, was nominated for the Locus Poll Award, Best Novel in the British Fantasy Award, and the Balrog Award.
