‘A Soweto Love Story’ Netflix Movie Review - When Love Comes at a Cost

In the vibrant tapestry of Soweto, there unfolds a tale as unique as the colors that adorn its streets—a story of love, family, and unexpected twists. A Soweto Love Story follows the tale of a family- a mother and her three sons. Like every other mother, she too dreams of wedding her three sons- Menzi, Sky, and Sandile who are reluctant to get married. But the question is how will she convince them of marriage? 

Now here, the mother is intelligent, she seems to have attained mastery in understanding human behavior. So, the logic is simple, what allures humans the most in this materialistic world? Yes, if your mind is taking you toward an answer - “money” then congratulations! You too have mastered this unique art of understanding the human psyche. Thus, she presents her sons with a simple yet compelling proposition: the one who walks down the aisle before the dawn of the New Year shall inherit the cherished family home. With this tantalizing incentive dangling before them, the brothers embark on an unexpected journey—a race to the altar, each fueled by their distinct motivations and lifestyles. However, it's not merely a matter of choosing the first eligible partner that crosses their path. Each son, with his quirks and charms, must navigate the labyrinth of love in his unique way.

Moreover, then, as if summoned by fate, the leading ladies make their entrance into the narrative. Menzi, the reserved proprietor of a bustling hotel, finds himself drawn to the enigmatic Dina, a woman he hires for work who embodies everything he is not. Sky’s love life is well kind of a secret. He and a friend Lynx enter into a deal to get married. But why a deal? That’s because Lynx is a lesbian and cannot break the news to her parents. As for Sandile, well it’s a bit complicated. He is in a relationship with a gorgeous girl named Sentebaleng (aka Sente). But that’s not it, outside this relationship, Sandile tends to be a flirtatious man. Sente is hellbent on breaking up with Sandaline after discovering that he cheated on her. Was his betrayal real, or merely a misinterpretation of events? That is for you, dear reader, to discover. Sandaline tries hard to win Senti back upon learning of the offer his mother put up. But will Sento give them another chance?

A Soweto Love Story is all about finding love and realizing the importance of family bonds. It teaches us that life exists beyond money and one must realize his/her true potential to find love. The actors are good in their roles with the correct comic timings, and the plot is interesting and quick-paced. It's a quirky romcom which you can watch over the weekend.
