HBO Max pirate comedy series “Our Flag Means Death” has officially wrapped up filming on its first season this Tuesday (September 28) in Burbank, California. Starring Taika Waititi as dreaded pirate Blackbeard, the series began filming on June 14.


“Our Flag Means Death,” which is set in 1717 is loosely based on the true adventures of wealthy landowner Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), who after a midlife crisis decides to abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate. But, it does not go well.


Series creator David Jenkins confirmed the production wrap through his social media accounts today. The comedy series is likely to arrive in 2022 or HBO Max could surprise by bringing it by December.

 


The cast also includes Kristian Nairn as John Feeney, Nathan Foad as Lucius, Rory Kinnear as Captain Nigel Badminton and Chauncey Badminton, Samson Kayo as Oluwande, Vico Ortiz as Bonifacia, Con O’Neill as Izzy, Ewen Bremner as Buttons, Joel Fry as Frenchie, David Fane as Fang, Matt Maher as Black Pete, Guz Khan as Ivan, Leslie Jones, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, and Samba Schutte.


“Our Flag Means Death” is executive produced by Taika Waititi, who has also directed the pilot. Series creator and showrunner David Jenkins executive produces with Emmy-nominated producer Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted. Piki Films produced the series alongside HBO Max.


The first season of “Our Flag Means Death,” reportedly has eight episodes of 30-mins each.
