‘Crooks’ (2024) Netflix Series Review - It All Begins With Just a Coin

Since the opening scene, we come to know who the main character is in this plot. And I am not talking about the actors, I mean the coin. Yes, this story revolves around a precious coin being stolen. So great is the impact of the first scene, it keeps you hooked right from that. The story then shifts to Charly, a doting father and a husband. But Charly has a past that her wife encourages him to disclose to his son. What exactly is Charly’s past and why is he so reluctant about it? He was formerly a safecracker, which we could see in the first scene itself. He has left his past behind, but his past hasn’t. Once again, his services as a safecracker are required to steal a precious coin from Hassan Al-Walid. Will he render them? Because of this, his family too gets involved in danger. To protect them, he has to leave this life as a family man behind.

As the dust settles from the chaos of the final heist, Charly's eyes fall upon a seemingly inconspicuous coin, its gleam casting a foreboding shadow over his newfound fortune. Little does he know, that the discovery of this seemingly innocuous object would unleash a storm of chaos, drawing the attention of some of the most formidable players in the criminal underworld. From the formidable Berlin clan to the ruthless Serbian gang of burglars, each faction harbors its own sinister agenda, united only in their insatiable desire to possess the elusive coin. Between the chaos of competing interests, a mysterious master thief emerges from the shadows, his motives shrouded in secrecy as he orchestrates a deadly game of cat and mouse with Charly at its center.

With each passing moment, the noose tightens around Charly's neck as he grapples with the realization that the coin he once viewed as a symbol of freedom has become a harbinger of his impending doom. Yet, amidst the turmoil and uncertainty, Charly finds solace in an unexpected ally – Joseph, the enigmatic driver whose steely resolve and unwavering loyalty serve as a beacon of hope in the darkness. With Joseph by his side, Charly harnesses the power of their unlikely partnership, transforming himself from a mere thief into a force to be reckoned with in the deadly game of survival that unfolds around them.

Will Charly ever get out of this spiral and have a normal life? Will he ever get “rid” of the coin?

Crooks is a very interesting show to watch. Spread over a total of eight episodes, it is a heavy watch spanning over a total of an hour of run time. It is filled with action scenes and a plot that keeps you hooked all the time. It is fast-paced and has some story to it. The actors in their roles do justice to their characters. So get ready to watch an action flick.
