After months of delay in the release due to COVID, the Disney Live-Action Remake of Mulan was released to Disney Plus subscribers on an additional price of $29.99 today. But it didn't take much time and was leaked online minutes after the release. The film was released in European countries, Australia, New Zeland, U.S., and Canada on Disney Plus with a premier access fee. Mulan will be released in theaters in China on September, 11.

Every digital release has to deal with piracy but in those cases, the customers and the general audience have a legal option to go to, as the film has a reasonable price and is easily available to watch on the platform the customer has subscribed to. But Mulan's case is completely different from a normal digital release as the customer has to pay an extra $29.99 other than the annual/monthly subscription fee of Disney Plus and that is what makes this film a perfect case for piracy.

The film is scheduled to release in China next week and this leak might impact its performance at the box-office. But that's not the worst news for Disney, the worst news is coming for other Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh where Disney is not releasing the film at all for at least 3 months.

In India where Disney Plus is available but the film is not available to watch even on the extra price, the film is likely to arrive when it will be available worldwide on the platform for all its subscribers which will be December 4th.

But is there any way that one can tell us, how this strategy is a smart move. I mean, I can understand if Tenet decides not to get the film released in the country due to the pandemic as it's going for a full theatrical release. But unlike Tenet, Disney is releasing the film on a streaming platform that is vulnerable to piracy, and the decision to completely ignore a country that has many loyal customers who can pay extra if required may backfire.

All I can say that its never too late, Disney can still stop illegal piracy of the film by releasing it on Disney Plus in India by adding a reasonable extra price that can be paid very easily by the subscribers here.

As far as the leaked film is concerned, it is now available on every torrent and illegal download sites in 1080p full HD, and 720p quality.
