The trailer shows George Clooney as a lonely scientist stranded in the Arctic as he tries to connect with a group of astronauts lead by Sully (Felicity Jones) in order to stop them from coming back to earth. In the trailer, he says "In our galaxy alone, there are billions of stars, at least one of them has the potential to support life."
The official synopsis says "This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine (George Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe."
Netflix has also released poster art for the upcoming science fiction.
In an interview, Clooney told with regret “We shot it on 65[mm] so that we could take it to IMAX, and you got to watch it on a screen about the size of an iPad.”
Clooney also said that the novel initially came to him via the team at Netflix. “The guys at Netflix sent it over to me to act in it. I read it and loved it, and thought I’d actually rather take a swing at directing it,” he explained. “I’d done a couple of space movies, so I knew how complicated the space stuff was going to be, but this one felt like a really intimate story about what mankind is capable of doing to mankind. I also liked the idea of a story of redemption, and this was kind of the ultimate story of redemption.”
Clooney directs the adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel Good Morning, Midnight, co-starring David Oyelowo, Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir, and Tiffany Boone. Mark L. Smith has penned the script.
The film is produced by Anonymous Content, Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures, and Syndicate Entertainment.
